PHILADELPHIA, Penn. – The Crimson made even more on history on the track at the Penn Relays, as the women's distance medley relay team of first-year
Sophia Gorriaran, junior
Chloe Fair, junior
Victoria Bossong, and senior
Maia Ramsden combined to break the NCAA record in the women's DMR.
The quartet finished the race in 10:37.55, surpassing the former record of 10:48.38 set by Villanova at the 1988 Penn Relays. On the all-time world performance list, the Crimson's time at the 2024 Penn Relays ranks third.
Gorriaran kicked-off the historic race, taking the baton for the 1200m leg of the DMR. A native of Providence, R.I., Gorriaran posted a 3:20.36 split in the 1200m, handing off the baton to Fair for the 400m portion of the event. A 2024 Second Team All-Ivy League honoree in the indoor 400m, Fair ran a 53.20 split in the 400m to move the Crimson up the pack.
For the 800m portion of the race, Bossong solidified the Crimson's position, running a 2:02.54 in the 800m to keep Harvard in third. The defending NCAA Women's 1500m National Champion, Ramsden propelled the Crimson to the win and history, running a 4:21.47 1,600m split to provide Harvard the win.
HARVARD HIGHLIGHTS:
- Gorriaran, Fair, Bossong, and Ramsden combined to shatter the NCAA women's DMR record on day two of the Penn Relays, posting a staggering time of 10:37.55.
- The former record was set by Villanova at the 1988 Penn Relays (10:48.38).
- Harvard's DMR result also ranks third on the all-time world performance list.
