Sailing Posts Runner-Up Performance at NEISA Open Team Race Championship, Finishes Fourth at Yale Women’s Team Race

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard Sailing competed at a pair of regattas this past weekend, with its top-ranked coed team coming in second place at the NEISA Open Team Race Championship and its No. 8-ranked women's squad finishing in fourth at the Yale Women's Team Race.

No. 1 Harvard finished the two-day event in second place after going 16-7 against the 12-team field. The Crimson, which found itself in a five-way tie for first place after one day of action, trailed only second-ranked Yale (17-6) when sailing was complete. Justin Callahan, Mitchell Callahan and Robby Meek performed skipper duties, with Kennedy Leehealey, Alexandra Dorofeev, Marbella Marlo and JJ Drummond serving as crew. Harvard opened racing with five consecutive victories, including 1-2-3 performances vs. No. 12 Boston College, Bowdoin and Connecticut College (other wins came vs. No. 4 Brown, No. 7 U.S. Coast Guard), en route to an 8-3 mark. The Crimson continued to impress on Day 2, rattling of four wins in a row (1-2-5 vs. No. 2 Yale, No. 5 Roger Williams, No. 4 Brown; 1-2-3 vs. No. 11 Dartmouth) before finishing at 5-2. Then to end the competition (Round 3 – Top 6), Harvard went 3-2, defeating Brown (1-2-4), Roger Williams (1-3-4) and No. 16 MIT (1-2-4), with losses to Yale (4-5-6) and Dartmouth (1-5-6) surrounding the trio of victories.

Yale Women's Team Race | New Haven, Conn.

The eighth-ranked Harvard women's team finished in fourth place in a field of six nationally ranked teams in The Constitution State. The Crimson posted a 5-10 record, finishing behind No. 1 Yale (14-1), No. 4 Brown (10-5) and No. 7 Dartmouth (9-6), and ahead of No. 10 Tulane (4-11) and No. 11 MIT (3-12). On the water were skippers Cordelia Burn, Sarah Burn and Zoey Ziskind, and crew members Emily Launderville, Sarra Guezguez, Peyton Hadfield, Lily Bartlett and Margo Silliman. The group finished its first two rounds with 1-4 performances, pocketing victories over Tulane (2-3-4) and MIT (1-3-4). In Round 3, however, the Crimson rebounded with wins vs. Dartmouth (1-2-5), MIT (2-3-4) and Tulane (2-3-4) to finish its time in New Haven.

Up Next

The Crimson will prepare this week for a trio of regattas, two of which will be held in the Greater Boston Area. Harvard will play host to the Legler Trophy New England Women's Team Racing Championship and visit nearby Medford for Tufts' Owen and Mosbacher-Knapp Trophies. The Crimson is also scheduled to appear at the Thompson Trophy Team Race in New London, Connecticut. All three events will be held Saturday-Sunday, April 13-14.
