CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard Sailing moved up one spot to finish in third place in the Western Bracket of the ICSA Women's Fleet Racing Semifinals, securing its spot in the finals, which begin on Wednesday. Sailors endured a lengthy delay on the Charles River due to a lack of wind, but were able to get 17 of a scheduled 18 races in over two days.
The Crimson finished with a semifinal score of 190, easily finishing in the top nine required advance to the championship round. Harvard came in third behind Yale (132) and Boston College (154), and ahead of fellow finals-qualifiers Dartmouth (193), Bowdoin (225), MIT (234), Northeastern (238), Georgetown (281) and Tulane (308).
Harvard, which was scheduled to compete in six races on Tuesday after finishing 12 on Monday, completed five along with the rest of the field. A-Division sailors
Cordelia Burn (skipper) and
Emily Launderville (crew) made a late statement in their final four races, coming in third, second, first and third to solidify its 86 score.
Zoey Ziskind (skipper) and
Margo Silliman (crew), meanwhile finished with a 1, 3, 8, 8, 3 performance to record a 104 in the B-Division, helping it hold off the Big Green in the Western team standings.
On the other side of the bracket, Stanford (116) won the Eastern semifinal and will be joined in the finals with the Western-bracket schools by Cornell (204), Penn (233), Navy (238), Brown (244), NC State (256), College of Charleston (265), George Washington (278) and Roger Williams (309).
The two-day finals of the ICSA Women's Fleet Racing National Championship will begin on Wednesday. Report time is scheduled for 10 a.m. ET, with first warning coming at 10:30 a.m. ET.
