EUGENE, Ore. – Harvard Track & Field enjoyed more success at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, as a pair of Crimson advanced to event finals on the second day of action at Hayward Field.
The evening started with the women's 1,500m semifinals, as senior
Maia Ramsden took another step in defending her national title in the event. Wearing hip number 10 in the second heat, the reigning NCAA women's indoor mile champion concluded the race excellently, separating from the pack in the last 200m to qualify for Saturday's final.
Ramsden posted a time of 4:06.00, just missing the meet record of 4:05.98 set by Oklahoma State's Sinclaire Johnson in 2019.
Two Crimson took center stage in the women's 800m semifinals, as junior
Victoria Bossong and first-year
Sophia Gorriaran each competed in the second heat, making their first appearances at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Starting in lane four, Gorriaran earned a spot in Saturday's final, posting a time of 2:00.87 to take third in the heat. Bossong produced a great showing in the opening heat as well, crossing the finish line in 2:01.20 to take eighth place overall in the semifinals.
With the hurdles on the track, junior
Chloe Fair represented Harvard in the women's 400 hurdles semifinals. Racing in the third and final heat, Fair took fifth place with a time of 56.50, finishing in 11
th place overall in the semifinals.
HARVARD HIGHLIGHTS:
- Ramsden will race in Saturday's women's 1,500m finals, looking to defend her national title in the event after winning the second heat of the semifinals.
- A qualifier for the 2024 NCAA Indoor Championships, Gorriaran punched her ticket to the women's 800m finals, posting a time of 2:00.87 in the semifinals.
- Bossong and Fair each earned All-America Second Team status in their respective events, the 800m and the 400 hurdles.
