Men's Lightweight Rowing

Watch: Men's Lightweight Rowing 2024 Season Recap

CAMBRIDGE, Mass –– Harvard Men's Lightweight Rowing capped off a historic spring season in 2024, earning both an Eastern Sprints title and the IRA National Championship for the first time since 2014.

Training at a high level throughout the off season, the Crimson began the year at Weld Boathouse before eventually moving back into the newly renovated Newell Boathouse in March. From there, Harvard dominated each opportunity in the spring season.

The first varsity boat went undefeated in eight regattas and held the number one spot in the IRCA rankings for the entire season. At Eastern Sprints, the crew won by a boat length to capture its first title in 10 years.

At IRAs just a few weeks later, the first and second varsity boats both claimed national titles and the Crimson took home the team points trophy.

Behind its exceptional performance, Harvard was awarded Ivy lightweight "Crew of the Year."

In a year in which he guided the Crimson to a national title, Billy Boyce received Ivy and IRCA Coach of the Year honors for his team's championship-level performance.

At the end of the season, the Crimson tallied four All-American rowers, including Brahm Erdmann, Ryan McCarthy, Anya Cheng, and James Stevenson. Anya Cheng also received "Coxswain of the Year" honors from the IRCA.

Following a historic year for the Crimson, the future is bright, as the men's lightweight team will bring back all but one athlete in the varsity eight.
