Men’s Swimming’s Siskos Competes in Semifinals in 200m Backstroke at Olympics

PARIS – Harvard men's swimming and diving incoming first-year Apostolos Siskos placed third in heat four and seventh in semifinal two of the 200-meter backstroke on Wednesday at the Paris La Defense Arena, closing out his time at the Games while representing Greece at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
 
Competing on day five of the Olympic Games, Siskos posted a time of 1:57.26 for third place in heat four, just behind first-place Lukas Maertens (1:56.89) of Germany and second-place Hubert Kos (1:57.01) of Hungary. Siskos outpaced fourth-place Keaton Jones (1:57.54) of the United States.
 
In the heats overall, Siskos took ninth place to book his spot in the semifinals. The best 16 athletes from the heats progressed to the semifinals with a time of 1:57.98 taking the final semifinal spot.
 
In the semifinals, Siskos came in seventh with a time of 1:57.77, swimming out of lane two. Siskos came in 14th overall in the semifinals with the top eight competitors qualifying for the finals. A time of 1:56.52 took the last spot in the final.
 
Prior to competing at the Olympics, Siskos set the Greek national record in the 200m backstroke with a time of 1:55.42 at the 2024 European Championships, earning a silver medal. At the 2024 World Championships, he came in sixth in the 200m backstroke. Siskos made his senior international debut at the 2022 European Championships.
