PARIS – On the final day of track & field action at the 2024 Paris Olympics,
Gabby Thomas '19 capped off one of the most impressive Olympic performances in recent memory with another gold medal, as the five-time Olympic medalist and Team USA finished in first in the women's 4x400m relay.
A native of Northampton, Massachusetts and the 2018 NCAA national champion in the women's indoor 200m, Thomas ends her time at the 2024 Paris Olympics with three gold medals.
With her gold medal triumph in the 4x400m relay, Thomas is just the second American to win gold in the women's 200m, women's 4x100m relay, and the women's 4x400m relay at the same Olympics, as Allyson Felix accomplished the feat at the 2012 London Olympics. Thomas now has five medals in Olympic competition, adding her three gold medals in Paris to a bronze in the 200m and a silver in the 4x100m relay from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Thomas is the program leader in Olympic medals won.
Running the third leg, Thomas maintained the substantial lead created by Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, as Thomas posted a split of 49.30, the fastest-time among all third legs in the field. The Americans won the Olympic title in the women's 4x400m relay with a time of 3:15.27, setting a new national record. The time was just shy of breaking the world record of 3:15.17 set by the USSR during the 1988 Seoul Olympics.
Earlier in the afternoon, rising senior
Graham Blanks competed in his first Olympic final, running in the men's 5000m final. A two-time first team All-American in the men's 5000m, Blanks showcased his talent with a ninth-place finish. A native of Athens, Georgia and the 2023 NCAA Men's Cross Country National Champion, Blanks posted a time of 13:18.67.
At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Harvard student-athletes earned 13 medals, setting a new school record for Olympic medals won in a year.
