Thomas Advances to 200m Semifinal at 2024 Paris Olympics

PARIS – Harvard track & field alumnae Gabby Thomas '19 and Stephanie Ratcliffe '23 began their journeys at the 2024 Pairs Olympics with strong results in the women's 200m first round and the women's hammer throw qualification round.

A bronze medalist in the 200m at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Thomas ran in the second heat of the women's 200m first round at the Stade de France. Running in the fifth lane, Thomas crossed the finish line in 22.20, clinching a spot in tomorrow's 200m semifinal with a first-place finish. Thomas' time was the fastest among all 21 competitors in the first round. Entering the 2024 Paris Olympics, Thomas owns the best time in the 200m this year, as she posted a 21.78 at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials.

Making her Olympic debut with Team Australia, Ratcliffe competed in group A of the women's hammer throw qualifying round. After fouling on her first two attempts, Ratcliffe's third and final throw reached 70.07m (229'), just 99 centimeters off a spot in the women's hammer throw final.
