LEXINGTON, Ky. – In her first ever race during the NCAA postseason slate, first-year
Dylan McElhinney rose to the occasion, advancing to the quarterfinal round of the women's 1500m on the second day of action at the 2026 NCAA East First Round.
A native of New York, New York and an All-Ivy League Second Team selection in the women's 1500m this season, McElhinney utilized a career-day in the event to qualify for Saturday's quarterfinal, running a personal-best 4:10.98 to automatically qualify with a fifth-place finish in the second heat. McElhinney's time ranked seventh among the entire field in the 1500m first round.
The last lap made the difference for McElhinney, as she split a 1:05.28 across the last 400m to separate with the lead pack. McElhinney's time of 4:10.98 represents the third fastest time in school history, as McElhinney is just one of three student-athletes to run a 4:10 or faster in the women's 1500m, joining two-time national champion in the women's 1500m
Maia Ramsden '24 and
Abbe Goldstein '22.
The day started with a historic showing in the women's 100 hurdles first round. Sophomore
Abigail Dennis stopped the clock at 13.32, resetting her school record of 13.36 set earlier this month at the 2026 Ivy League Heptagonal Outdoor Championships. With that time, Dennis finished in 28
th place.
Along with her record-breaking time in the women's 100 hurdles, Dennis finished in 46
th place in the women's 400 hurdles first round with a time of 1:02.65.
Harvard then featured in a series of field events. In her NCAA East First Round debut, sophomore
Tyler Glover finished in 20
th in the women's shot put first round, as her final throw of the day reached 16.34m (53'7.5"). A native of Charlotte, North Carolina, Glover surpasses 16.00m in the shot put for the third time this outdoor season.
An All-American in the women's long jump last season, junior
Marta Amani took 24
th place in the women's long jump first round with a jump of 6.00m (19'8.25") on her second attempt of the afternoon. Amani, who took third in the women's long jump at the 2026 Ivy League Heptagonal Outdoor Championships, leapt over 6.00m four times this year.
Another Crimson making their NCAA East First Round debut, sophomore
Ella McRitchie cleared 4.22m (13'10") to take 20
th in the women's pole vault first round. A native of Bainbridge, Washington, McRitchie is the school record in the women's pole vault, setting it with a height of 4.40m (14'5.25") at the Tom Jones Memorial.
Back on the track, sophomore
Ella Cooper, the Most Outstanding Female Track Athlete at the 2026 Ivy League Outdoor Championships, doubled in both women's 100m and 200m first rounds. The women's 100m first round saw Cooper sprint a 11.42 to take 29
th, while Cooper registered a 23.24 to take 25
th in the women's 200m first round.

- McElhinney qualifies for the women's 1500m quarterfinals with a personal-best time of 4:10.98, taking seventh overall in the women's 1500m first round.
- That time ranks third all-time in school history, as McElhinney is only the third student-athlete in school history to run a 4:10 in the women's 1500m.
- A native of New York, New York, McElhinney is looking to become only the second NCAA Outdoor Championships qualifier in the women's 1500m in school history, as Ramsden became the first during the 2023 season.
- Dennis breaks her own school record in the women's 100 hurdles with a time of 13.32 at the NCAA East First Round.
