CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard Football senior linebacker
Mitchell Gonser has earned Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week honors after recording his first career interception and first career touchdown in the Crimson's 35-0 win over Stetson in its season opener, the Ivy League conference office announced on Monday afternoon.
Gonser picked off his first career interception and returned it 37 yards for a touchdown with 8:01 left in the first quarter to give Harvard a 21-0 lead on Stetson. Gonser posted a team-high seven tackles with three solo stops and four assists, while adding a tackle for loss and a pass breakup to help the Harvard defense register a shutout for the first time since 2015.
Next, Harvard travels south to face Brown on Saturday, Sept. 28. Game time in Providence, Rhode Island, is slated for noon ET with the contest airing on ESPN+.
