PRINCETON, N.J. – Harvard women's golf completed play at the Princeton Invitational this afternoon, finishing in seventh place with a team score of 909 or 57-over-par. The Crimson was led by first-year
Lucy Yuan who recorded her first career top 10 finish with a score of six-over-par across the 54-hole event.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Harvard made its way to New Jersey to compete in the Princeton Invitational for the eighth straight season. The Crimson was coming off a second-place finish at the Penn State Nittany Lion invitational two weeks prior.
- On the first day of competition, Harvard shot a team score of 299 or 15-over-par. Lucy Yuan and Iris Wang tied for the team low in the first round, carding two-over-par rounds of 73. Wang had three birdies on her card in the first 18 holes, a team best.
- The group was tied for third place at the conclusion of the first round at 15-over-par.
- Yuan continued her strong play in the second round, carding a five-over-par round of 76 to stay in the mix at the top of the leaderboard. Fellow first-year Vanessa Zhang also had a strong showing in the second round, posting a 77.
- Harvard fell back into eighth place after the second round, sitting at 43-over-par after 36 holes.
- Harvard bounced back in the final-round shooting its best round of the tournament with a 14-over-par score of 298.
- The final round surge was sparked by Yuan's one-under-par round of 70 and Wang's three-over round of 74.
- The Crimson jumped up one spot to help it finish in seventh place in the 12-team tournament.
- Yuan jumped into eighth place in the field of 75 golfers to claim her first career top 10 finish. Wang also came in with a top 20 score of 14-over-par to finish no. 17 in the field.
HARVARD HIGHLIGHTS
- First-year Lucy Yuan carded rounds of 73, 76 and 70 in the tournament to take eight-place in the field. Yuan also posted seven birdies in the event, the most on the team.
- Iris Wang finished in 17th place after scoring round of 73, 80 and 74.
- First-year Vanessa Zhang came in at 16-over-par to claim the no. 23 spot in the field.
UP NEXT
Harvard will play its next tournament on October 14-15 at the Quinnipiac Classic. The team will make its first-ever appearance in the tournament when it competes on the Farms Country Club in two weeks.
