Sun Earns No. 8 Spot on D1Softball’s Shortstop Rankings

CAMBRIDE, Mass. – Harvard softball sophomore Sophie Sun, the reigning Ivy League Player and Rookie of the Year, garnered a preseason accolade this morning from D1Softball, as the Austin, Texas native took the No. 8 spot on the media outlet's National Shortstop Rankings.

Sun's first collegiate campaign was one to remember, as the Crimson's star shortstop led the Ivy League in batting average (.421), hits (56), doubles (14), RBIs (44), slugging percentage (.797) and was tied for the team lead in home runs with 10. All of those marks rank in the top-10 for single-season performance in program history, as Sun also became the first softball student-athlete in Ivy League history to win Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year in the same season.

The 2024 season also saw Sun garner several individual accolades. Sun was a unanimous All-Ivy League First Team selection and also earned National Fastpitch Coaches Association Northeast All-Region Second Team honors. At the end of the 2024 season, Sun was one of 10 semifinalists for the Tucci/NFCA Division I Freshman of the Year award, becoming the first student-athlete in program history to achieve that honor.

Sun and the Crimson earned a share of the 2024 Ivy League regular season title and are looking for more in the 2025 season. Harvard softball begins the 2025 campaign in Statesboro, Georgia on Friday, Feb. 14, facing both Furman and tournament host Georgia Southern.
