BOSTON, Mass. – Harvard track & field enjoyed a sensational day at the Boston University Track & Tennis Center, as Crimson student-athletes broke a trio of school records at the Battle in Beantown.
In a record-setting performance at the Boston University Track & Tennis Center, senior
Izzy Goudros set a new program standard in the 300m at the Battle in Beantown. A native of Toronto, Ontario, Goudros won the event with a time of 37.34, surpassing the previous school record of 37.47 set by three-time Olympic gold medalist
Gabby Thomas '19 in 2017.
Goudros also played a role in another program record on the track, joining teammates
Chloe Fair,
Sophia Gorriaran, and
Victoria Bossong in recording a new school record in the 4x400m relay. The Crimson quartet won the event with a time of 3:33.95, topping the previous record of 3:34.17 set in 2023.
The final school record of the day was set over on the pole vault runway, as senior
Anastasia Retsa authored a stunning showing, clearing the bar at 4.35m (14'3.25"). Retsa reset her own school record of 4.32m (14'0.5").
Several other Crimson orchestrated impressive results at the Battle in Beantown. In his 2024-25 season debut, senior, team captain and defending NCAA men's weight throw national champion
Kenneth Ikeji took home first place at the Battle in Beantown with a throw of 22.72m (74'6.5"). A native of London, U.K., Ikeji now ranks in the top-five nationally in the weight throw.
HARVARD HIGHLIGHTS:
- The Crimson's afternoon at the Battle in Beantown started with the men's 60m hurdles. Sophomore Simon Weiser placed second in the event with a time of 8.21, just short matching his personal set earlier this season at the HBCU & Ivy Challenge (8.20).
- A trio of Crimson represented Harvard in the women's 60m dash. Goudros was Harvard's top finisher in the event, finishing in third with a time of 7.53. First-Years Saige Forbes (6th/7.78) and Ella Cooper (8th/7.84) also placed in the top-10 of the women's 60m dash.
- In his Crimson track & field debut, first-year Camren Ware earned a spot in the men's 60m dash final, finishing in seventh with a time of 7.01.
- Over on the field, sophomore Chris Ruano earned a fourth place finish in the men's high jump after clearing the bar at 1.90 (6'2.75").
- In her second appearance of the 2024-25 campaign, sophomore Sophia Gorriaran won the 600m with a time of 1:28.10, a time that ranks second in school history. A native of Providence, Rhode Island, Gorriaran is a two-time All-America Second Team selection in the 800m.
- The women's 300m saw three Crimson take spots in the top-five. Goudros won the event with a time of 37.34, a new school record, as senior Victoria Bossong finished in second with a time of 37.93. The second heat saw senior Chloe Fair finish in fourth with a time of 38.62.
- Sophomore Zane Wallace set a new personal-best in the men's long jump with a mark of 6.39m (20'11.75"), taking fifth place in the process.
- An impressive total of five Crimson took a spot in the top-10 of the men's 300m, highlighted by a third place showing from first-year Harlow Tong (33.81) and a fourth place finish from first-year Hudson Allain (33.88).
- The reigning NCAA men's weight throw national champion, Ikeji his title defense with a win at the Battle in Beantown, taking first with an attempt of 22.72m (74'6.5").
- Harvard captured the top-two spots in the women's pole vault. Retsa broke her own school record in the event (4.35m/14'3.25") on her way to first place honors. First-Year Ella McRitchie finished in second after posting a mark of 3.95m (12'11.50").
- The afternoon in Boston ended with the men's and women's 4x400m relays.
- Fair, Goudros, Gorriaran, and Bossong combined to win the women's 4x400m relay, setting a new school record with a time of 3:33.95. That result ranks seventh in the nation.
- On the men's side, Tong, Allain, first-year Liam Acevedo, and first-year Brayden Chavez combined for a time of 3:16.63, taking second place.
