NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Harvard women's squash rebounded in a big way this afternoon on the road, earning a 9-0 sweep over No. 7 Yale. The Crimson (6-1, 4-0 Ivy) remain unbeaten in Ivy League play with the result over the Bulldogs. The third match sweep for the Crimson this season helped the group take home its sixth win of the campaign heading into the Individual National Championships next weekend.
How It Happened
Harvard women's squash was looking to rebound after a narrow loss to Trinity on Friday (Jan. 17). The Crimson got off to a great start in the first wave, earning three consecutive wins.
Caroline Fouts outscored her opponent 33-10 to lead the way in a 3-0 victory.
Molly Stoltz was close behind, also posting a 3-0 win. After falling in a first game tie-break,
Brecon Welch stormed back to win the final three games and claim a win at the eighth position. Welch outscored her opponent 33-10 in the final three games to seal the win and give Harvard a 3-0 lead.
Habiba Eldafrawy led off the second wave with a win at the fourth spot on the ladder. Eldafrawy won 3-0 (11-9, 11-6, 11-3) to put Harvard on the brink of victory.
Emma Carney clinched the win for the Crimson at the nine spot, cruising to a 3-0 win for Harvard's fifth point of the match.
Saran Nghiem closed out the second set of matches with a thrilling 3-2 win at the top of the ladder. Nghiem split each of the first four matches before emerging victorious after a tiebreak win in the decisive fifth game.
Playing at the five spot,
Ocean Ma earned the first win of the final wave with a 3-1 win over her opponent.
Lucie Stefanoni raced to a win at the three spot, claiming a 3-0 victory in just 17 minutes.
Amira Singh completed the Crimson sweep, earning a 3-2 win at the seven spot on the ladder.
