PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Senior
Anastasia Retsa made even more history in the women's pole vault this afternoon at the Penn 10 Elite, as the Athens, Greece native set a new Ivy League record in the women's pole vault.
After resetting her own school record in the event last weekend at the Battle in Beantown, Retsa needed only one attempt to break the Ivy League record, as she cleared the bar at 4.41m (14'5.5"), becoming the first student-athlete in Ivy League and Harvard history to successfully clear 4.40m in the women's pole vault.
HARVARD HIGHLIGHTS:
- The Crimson's time at the Penn 10 Elite started off with a stellar showing in the men's high jump from sophomore Tito Alofe.
- The Peachtree, Georgia native cleared the first three heights (2.00m/6'6.75", 2.05m/6'8.75", 2.10m/6'10.75) all on his first attempts, locking up first place honors in the process.
- Retsa made a statement in the women's pole vault. After breaking her own school record in the women's pole vault last weekend at the Battle in Beantown, Retsa did it again at the Ott Center, breaking the Ivy League record after clearing 4.41m (14'5.5") to take first place.
- A native of Athens, Greece, Retsa now ranks seventh on the national performance list and owns the Ivy League lead in the women's pole vault.
- Along with Retsa, two other Crimson starred in the women's pole vault. First-Year Ella McRitchie earned third place honors after clearing the bar at 4.26m (13'11.75"), a collegiate career-best for the Bainbridge, Washington native.
- Sophomore Lilly Hodge placed fifth after posting a 3.96m (12'11.75").
- In her second appearance of the 2024-25 season, sophomore Emilia Kolokotroni finished in second in the women's weight throw, posting a mark of 18.80m (61'8.25").
- The defending NCAA men's weight throw national champion, senior Kenneth Ikeji picked up his second victory in his second outing of the campaign, throwing 23.78m (78'.25") to secure the honor.
- Harvard started the action on the track with a strong performance in the women's 60m hurdles. After playing a part in two school records last weekend, senior Izzy Goudros won the event with a season-best time of 8.50, narrowly defeating Virginia's Maya Rollins.
- A pair of Crimson advanced to the men's 60m final. The school record holder in the men's 60m, sophomore Timi Esan finished in second with a time of 6.73, while first-year LeRoy Horton placed in third, crossing the finish line in 6.75. Horton's time is tied for sixth all-time in school history.
- The women's 400m saw Harvard claim the top-two positions in the event. Senior Victoria Bossong won the event with a time of 52.94, placing her in seventh on the national performance list. Fellow classmate Chloe Fair finished in second, as her time of 53.62 at the Penn 10 Elite ranks 14th nationally.
- Four Crimson finished in the top-10 of the women's 200m. After winning the 60m hurdles, Goudros did it again on the oval, crossing the finish line in first place with a time of 23.80. First-Year Ella Cooper finished in fifth with a time of 24.43, while Bossong and junior Mfoniso Andrew took sixth and seventh, respectively.
- Esan and first-year Harlow Tong highlighted the Crimson's outing in the men's 200m. A native of London, England, Esan placed third with a time of 21.31, while Tong took fourth, crossing the finish line in 21.47.
- Back on the field, first-year Tyler Glover garnered third-place accolades in the women's shot put, posting a mark of 14.95m (49'.75"), a mark that represents Glover's career-best in the event.
- Over in the men's pole vault, first-year Philip Andreas Kubon finished in fourth after clearing 5.02m (16'5.5"), as he is the seventh student-athlete in program history to clear 5.00m in the men's pole vault.
- Two Crimson concluded the day in the men's shot put. Sophomore Isaac Delaney took sixth with a throw of 16.64m (54'7.25"), while senior Eros Bottino finished in 13th with a mark of 15.05m (49'4.5").
UP NEXT:
The Crimson head back to Massachusetts for a pair of meets next weekend on Friday, Jan. 31 and Saturday, Feb. 1. Harvard will host the Harvard Invitational at Gordon Indoor Track, while select Crimson student-athletes will also take part in the Terrier Classic at the Boston University Track & Tennis Center.
