CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard Sailing emerged victorious at the Stu Nelson Trophy and came in second place at the Open Atlantic Coast Championship – Round 1 this past weekend in New London, Connecticut. The Crimson also finished in 12
th at the Sister Ester Trophy in Newport, Rhode island.

Harvard was excellent on the Thames River, with only one race producing a finish outside the top seven.
Zoey Ziskind and
Hanah Youn competed in the A-division and they came in 13
th place in Race 1. After that, it was an impressive showing, putting up a final line of 1-1-6-1-4-2 to finish with an A-division-best score of 28.
Kate Danielson and
JJ Drummond were the top pairing in the B-division, settling in after a 7-6 start to finish 2-2-2-1-2. The duo ended with a 22. Over in the C-division,
Sophia Montgomery and
Christina Chen were even better than their teammates, registering a 14, which was buoyed by five first-place efforts. Their final line was 1-1-3-6-1-1-1. The Crimson won the regatta with a 64, finishing ahead of runner-up Stanford (104).
Open Atlantic Coast Championship – Round 1 | New London, Conn.
A shortage of wind limited sailors to just eight races – three on Saturday and five on Sunday. Harvard's A-grouping of
Justin Callahan and
Jacob Posner finished with the top score (22) in their division. The tandem won its first three races before a fifth-place showing paused their momentum. They ended up winning Race 5 and closed the regatta with a 3-3-7.
Mitchell Callahan and
Rosella Irfan, meanwhile, had seven top-8 performances and ended the two-day event by winning Race 8, to finish with a 44 (8-10-4-5-2-7-7-1). The Crimson's final score of 66 trailed only Brown and its 57.

Wind was scarce on Mt. Hope Bay, so scarce that only four races were contested.
Theresa Straw and
Grace Naylor had the A-division assignment and registered a finish line of 9-13-9-12 to post a 43.
Caroline Straw and
Skyler Reading, meanwhile, turned in a 45 (8-11-13-13). Harvard's regatta score of 88 was tied with Yale for 11
th, but the Crimson took 12
th place due to the number of high-place finishes (7). Boston College won the trophy with a 26.
Up Next
Harvard will play host to the Women's Atlantic Coast Championship – Final and head to the Captain Hurst Bowl in Hanover, New Hampshire. Both regattas are scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 11-Sunday, Oct. 12.
