No. 3 Men’s Squash Defeats No. 18 Western Ontario in Season Opener

LONDON, Ontario, Canada – The 2025-26 season has officially begun for the Harvard men's squash team. The Crimson picked up a convincing win in its first contest of the campaign this afternoon, defeating the No. 18 Western Ontario Mustangs, 9-0. Harvard made the trip up to Canada to battle the Mustangs, handing the team its first loss of the season in sweeping fashion after winning all nine matches in the meeting.
 

How it Happened

 
The Crimson started strong in the first wave, securing three consecutive wins to build a lead in the match. Omar Azzam fought back with three game wins after falling in the first to take a 3-1 win at twos. Alexander Broadbridge posted his first career win at fives, sweeping his opponent 3-0. Marcus Lee closed out the first set of matches with a 3-0 sweep at nines.
 
Harvard continued its strong play through the second wave of matches, picking up three more wins to clinch the match. Segev Rome started it off with a 3-0 win at sixes and Louis Murray provided the clinching point with a 3-0 win at eights. Denis Gilevskiy came out on top in his match at ones, 3-1, to lift the Crimson to a 6-0 advantage.
 
First-year Maddox Moxham led off the final trio of matchups by picking up his first collegiate win in the match at fours. Moxham defeated his opponent in sweeping fashion to increase the Crimson advantage. Jacob Lin followed suit with another Crimson sweep at eights. First-year Christian Capella closed out the afternoon with another win and the first of his collegiate career.
 
The Crimson came out of Canada with a convincing 9-0 win over No. 18 Western Ontario to move to 1-0 on the season.

Harvard will be back in action this Tuesday (Nov. 18) for the cross-town showdown against Cambridge rival, MIT. The Crimson and the Engineers are set to compete at 5:00 PM on Tuesday at MIT's home courts.
