CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard women's ice hockey received its second ECAC weekly award this morning after
Izzy Whynot was named the Bitcoin Rookie of the Week. The Ontario native earned the honor after shutting out the St. Lawrence Saints on Saturday afternoon to earn her first collegiate shutout and win. The heroic effort helped Harvard defeat the Saints, 1-0, and improve its record to 3-3-0 on the season.
It was just the second career start for Whynot, who joined the Crimson this Summer out of the Sir William Mulock School and the Central York Panthers hockey program. The rookie made 34 saves between the pipes to stop the SLU offensive attack, including three big stops while the Saints were on the powerplay.
This was the second weekly award given to the Crimson this season after
Keira Ley won the Defensive Player of the Week award after a three-point weekend in the Crimson's opening series against Saint Michael's and New Hampshire.
The Crimson will be back on the ice this weekend for a home-and-home series against the Dartmouth Big Green. Harvard will first travel up to Hanover for a 3:00 matchup at Thompson Arena on Friday before taking on the Big Green at the Bright-Landry Hockey Center on Saturday. Both games will air live on ESPN+.
