Bascon Elected Football’s 152nd Team Captain

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard Football running back Xaviah Bascon has been elected the program's 152nd team captain, it was revealed today following a team-wide vote inside Murr Center.

A native of Nahant, Bascon finished his junior campaign as an All-Ivy League performer, landing on the second team. This past season, Bascon, who played in all 11 games, rushed for a career-high 626 yards and seven touchdowns, while adding a personal-best 14 catches for 116 yards and one TD. He also returned four kicks in 2025, averaging 15.5 yards per attempt.

For his career, Bascon, who was an Honorable Mention All-Ivy selection as a first-year, has rushed for 1,234 yards and 12 touchdowns to go with another 215 yards and three TDs in the passing game.

Bascon follows in the footsteps of 2025 team captain Ty Bartrum and is the second offensive player in the last three years to be voted captain (Shane McLaughlin). Prior to McLaughlin in 2024, the last offensive player to serve as Harvard captain was quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick in 2004.
