Women’s Basketball Returns to Action Against Maine

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Following more than two weeks away, Harvard women's basketball (6-5) will return to action this Sunday, December 21 against Maine (4-8).  The Crimson will look to extend its winning streak to four as it welcomes the Black Bears to Lavietes Pavilion for a Sunday matinee. 

What to Know

  • The Crimson's 2025-26 season is comprised of 13 nonconference games and its annual 14-game Ivy League slate.  Harvard played nine of its nonconference games in November and eight of them took place outside Cambridge, Mass.
  • Overall, the Crimson went 4-5 in the first month of action.  Harvard has faced a stacked schedule so far, having faced five power conference opponents including Michigan (Big Ten), Cal (ACC), Boston College (ACC), Alabama (SEC), and Arkansas (SEC). 
  • Most recently, Harvard began its four-game homestand against Holy Cross and Stony Brook.  The Crimson recorded two wins, defeating the Crusaders and the Seawolves by an average of 24.5 points. 
  • Against the Seawolves, Abigail Wright led all scorers with 22 points on 50% shooting, Mary Hollensteiner had a breakout performance with a career-high 17 points, and Saniyah Glenn-Bello stuffed the stat sheet with 14 points, nine assists, seven rebounds, five blocks, and a steal. 
  • After her gritty performances in Harvard's two wins, Olivia Jones took home her second weekly honor being named the Ivy League Co-Rookie of the Week.  The first-year averaged 9.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.5 points, and 2.0 steals.
  • Wright is putting up career numbers in her junior campaign by averaging 14.5 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 2.3 assists. She ranks fifth in scoring (14.5) and sixth in rebounding (6.9) in the Ivy League.  In the nation, the Massachusetts native currently ranks as the 11th best offensive rebounder with an average of 4.3 o-boards per game. 
  • Glenn-Bello is all over the court for the Crimson and ranks four in the conference for blocks (1.3), sixth for assists (3.2), and ninth for steals (1.5).  In large part to a dominant seven-game stretch, the senior is averaging 10.1 points, 4.4 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.3 blocks per game. 
  • Katie Krupa is also distributing and defending the bucket as she ranks fifth in the Ivy League for blocks (1.2) and 13th for assists (2.8). 
  • Prior to the season, the Crimson elected juniors, White and Wright as captains of the 2025-26 Harvard women's basketball team. 
  • To open the year, Carrie Moore, the Kathy Delaney-Smith Head Coach for Harvard Women's Basketball; The Ragatz Family Harvard Coach of Excellence, was named to the preseason watch list for the 2026 Kathy Delaney-Smith Mid-Major Coach of the Year Award.  Moore was one of five finalists for the award last season. 
  • In the most recent Mid-Major Top 25 poll, the Crimson checked in at No. 19. 
  • In the first NET Rankings of the 2025-26 season, Harvard checked in at 68.  The Crimson currently remains at 68 and has the second-best NET in the Ivy League, trailing only Princeton at 36. 
  • The Crimson was picked to finish third in the Ivy league Preseason Poll, receiving 126 points, including one first-place vote.  Harvard trailed only Princeton (163) and Columbia (147). 
  • The Crimson trails 9-11 in the all-time series against the Black Bears.
  • Harvard has recently lessened the deficit, having won three of the last four contests.
  • Most recently, Harvard defeated Maine on their home court, 83-41, on November 17, 2024.

Harvard will close out the non-conference season as it welcomes the Delaware Blue Hens to Cambridge on December 29.  Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m. ET in Lavietes Pavilion and on ESPN+.
