Softball Embarks on 2025 Season Down South at Bash in the Boro

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard softball begins its 2025 campaign with a trip south, as the Crimson gear up to take on Lipscomb, Furman, and tournament host Georgia Southern at the Bash in the Boro in Statesboro, Georgia this weekend.

Action begins on Friday, Feb. 14, as Harvard faces Furman at 12:30 p.m. and Georgia South at 5:30 p.m. The next day sees the Crimson participate in rematches against Georgia Southern at 3:00 p.m. and Furman at 5:30 p.m. Harvard concludes its time at the Bash in the Boro on Sunday, Feb. 16 with a 9:30 a.m. meeting with Lipscomb.

The Crimson's contest against Georgia Southern on Friday, Feb. 14 will air live on ESPN+.

MEET THE CRIMSON:
  • The Crimson enter the 2025 season with back-to-back Ivy League regular season titles, as Harvard earned a share of championship with Princeton and Yale in 2024. The 2024 season ended with the Crimson posting a 27-17 overall record and a 14-7 mark in Ivy League action.
  • Head coach Jenny Rohn is in her second season at the helm of Harvard softball. A former Crimson assistant coach from 2018-20 and 2021-22, Rohn is joined by assistant coaches Myka Sutherlin, Maddy Carpe and Xiao Gin.
  • In the 2025 Ivy League's preseason poll, the Crimson were selected to pick second, earning four first-place votes in the process.
  • Last season saw Harvard lead the Ivy League in batting average (.313), runs (233), hits (377), slugging percentage (.443) and earned run average (2.67).
  • The 2025 iteration of the Crimson boast a healthy mix of young talent and veteran leadership, as Harvard returns 70 percent of hits and 76 percent of its RBIs from last season.
  • Following the Bash in the Boro, the Crimson will feature in two more nonconference tournaments before beginning Ivy League play.
  • From Friday, Feb. 28 – Sunday, Mar. 2, Harvard will square off against Saint Joseph's, Kent State and North Carolina at the Mizuno Showdown in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
  • Harvard will then head west, taking on Portland State, Santa Clara, Weber State at Saint Mary's at the Santa Clara Invitational and the Saint Mary's Tournament on Friday, Mar. 14 and Saturday, Mar. 15.
  • After a trip to the nation's capital for a pair of midweek meetings against Georgetown and George Washington, Harvard begins Ivy League play with a highly-anticipated rematch of the 2024 Ivy League Tournament championship against Princeton, with the three-game series in the Garden State set to begin on Saturday, Mar. 22.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION:
  • Furman enters the Bash in the Boro with a 1-3 record, starting the season by hosting the Paladin Invitational last weekend. After opening the campaign with a 4-8 loss against South Carolina State, Furman bounced back with a 2-1 extra-innings win against UT Martin. The Paladins ended the tournament with back-to-back losses against Stonehill and Evansville.
  • The Crimson and Paladins have met twice before on the softball diamond, as the all-time series is tied, 1-1. The first meeting arrived in 1998 as Furman won the last contest in the series, 6-5, in 2020.
  • Georgia Southern owns a 2-3 record, picking up wins against Illinois State and No. 22 Michigan and falling to Delaware, South Florida and No. 2 Florida at the USF-Rawlings Invitational last weekend.
  • The all-time series between Georgia Southern and Harvard is tied, 1-1, as the Eagles won the last meeting in 2016.
  • Lipscomb is 1-4 in the early stages of the 2025 season, winning against Bradley and falling against No. 14 Arkansas, Texas State, and San Diego twice.
  • Sunday morning's meeting is the first ever contest between the Crimson and Bison on the softball field.
CAPTAINING THE CRIMSON:
  • Senior outfielder Savannah Fitzpatrick, senior pitcher Katie Arrambide and junior pitcher Ryan Grace are Harvard's captains for the 2025 season.
  • A native of Saint Charles, Illinois, Arrambide is a staple for the Crimson in the circle. Across 58 career appearances and 184.0 innings pitched, Arrambide owns a 3.16 career ERA with 83 strikeouts.
  • Fitzpatrick, a two-time captain and All-Ivy League First Team selection last season, is a sparkplug and well-rounded outfielder for the Crimson. In 2024, Fitzpatrick set career-highs in hits (36), RBIs (28), home runs (3), and slugging percentage (.460) last season.
  • Another stellar pitcher for Harvard, Grace is a leader on and off the field for Harvard.  A native of Sammamish, Washington, Grace made six appearances last season.
SUN'S SHOW
  • One of the top shortstops in the nation, sophomore Sophie Sun is looking to build upon a one-of-a-kind first-year season.
  • Last year saw Sun take home the Ivy League Player of the Year and Ivy League Rookie of the Year awards, becoming the first student-athlete in conference history to earn both awards in the same year.
  • A native of Austin, Texas, Sun led the Ivy League in batting average (.421), hits (56), doubles (14), RBIs (44), total bases (106), slugging percentage (.797), and was tied for the lead in home runs (10) last season.
  • Sun also became the first student-athlete in program history to become a semifinalist for the Tucci/NFCA Freshman of the Year award last year.
  • Prior to the 2025 season, D1Softball ranked Sun at No. 8 in its National Shortstop Position Rankings.
CRIMSON ALL ACROSS THE COUNTRY:
  • Harvard softball has found talent from all across the United States.
  • The Crimson hail from 13 different states, including Illinois, Arizona, New Jersey, Hawaii, Washington, Missouri, Ohio, Virginia, California, Texas, Georgia, Florida and North Carolina.
