Severo Scores as Men’s Ice Hockey Drops Beanpot Semifinal Against No. 8 Boston University

Box Score BOSTON, Mass. – Harvard men's ice hockey kicked-off the 72nd Beanpot at TD Garden with a matchup against No. 8 Boston University, as the Crimson dropped the contest against the Terriers, 7-1.

Junior forward Casey Severo opened the scoring midway through the first period, netting his first Beanpot and his ninth on the season, both a career-high and team high mark this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The opening five minutes saw both teams control the puck, with Harvard (7-12-2, 6-7-2 ECAC) recording three shots on goal in the initial moments of the Beanpot Semifinal against Boston University (15-9-1, 10-5-1 Hockey East).

With just 4:46 elapsed in the first period, the Crimson earned the first power play opportunity of the contest and converted for an early lead against the Terriers. Senior defender Ian Moore fired a pass in front of the Boston University goal, as Severo collected the ricochet and slotted the shot into the back of the net for the first Beanpot goal of his Harvard tenure, 1-0.

The Crimson's leader in goals this season with nine, Severo now has 15 points this season, a new career-high for the Penfield, New York native.

Boston University drew the score level with under five minutes to go in the first period, 1-1, as the Crimson ended the opening 20 minutes action from TD Garden with nine shots on target and five blocks.
The second period saw Boston University take the lead, as the Terriers scored five goals in the frame, 6-1. The Crimson logged four shots on goal in the second period.

Harvard continued to battle in the third period, creating several attacking chances. Boston University held on in the third period, adding another goal to secure the 7-1 win in the Beanpot Semifinals. The Crimson ended the evening at TD Garden with 27 shots on goal and 13 blocks.

GAME NOTES

  • Severo netted the first Beanpot goal of his Harvard career in the first period, as the goal as marked his 19th for the Crimson across 80 appearances.
  • A native of Penfield, N.Y., Severo leads Harvard in goals with a career-high nine and is tied for the team lead in points with 15.

Harvard hits the road this weekend, as the Crimson travel to Hanover, New Hampshire for a contest against Dartmouth, as all the action will air live on ESPN+.

The Crimson resume the 2025 Dunkin' Beanpot next week, as Harvard will face either No. 1 Boston College or Northeastern in the Third Place Game at TD Garden on Monday, Feb. 10.
