Men’s Golf Comes in Third at Cutter Creek Intercollegiate

SNOW HILL, N.C. – Harvard men's golf completed its run at the Cutter Creek Intercollegiate on Sunday, finishing in third place at the tournament. The Crimson shot a combined three-over-par as a team and was led by the first-year duo of William Ma and Barry Zhang who both tied for seventh in the tournament.

How it Happened

The Crimson traveled to North Carolina this weekend to compete in the Cutter Creek Intercollegiate for the second consecutive season. Harvard, who finished in sixth place at last year's event – was looking to continue building momentum as it heads into the Ivy League Championships in a few weeks.

Harvard had a few notable performances in the first round of play including a pair of three-under-par rounds from first-years William Ma and Barry Zhang. The duo both carded rounds of 69 on the opening day of competition to position themselves in a tie for second place. Ma's round featured an eagle and five birdies while Zhang carded six birdies in his round to lead the Crimson. Ieuan Jones also went under-par on day one with a 71 (-1) and Jonathan Hartono's even-par closed out the scoring in the first round of competition. Harvard's team score of 281 (-7) put the team in second place heading into Saturday.

Ma and Jones each shot even-par in the second round to lead the team in scoring on Saturday. Darren Choi's round of 73 (+1) and Zhang's score of 76 (+4) factored into the team total of 293 (+5). The team dropped down one spot but remained in third place heading into the final day of competition.

The first-year duo of Zhang and Ma once again led the way in the final round of the tournament, posting scored of 70 (-2) and 74 (+2), respectively, to pace the Crimson. Hartono also posted a two-over 74 and Jones rounded out the scoring with a three-over 75 in the final round of play. The combined score of five-over in the final round put the Crimson in third place at the close of competition.
