CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard Sailing captured the Marchiando Trophy Team Race for the second year in a row, came in fourth place at the Dellenbaugh Trophy Women's Team Race and logged a ninth-place performance at the BU Trophy Fleet Race this past weekend. The Crimson has now finished in the upper half of team races in eight of nine regattas this spring.

Cold and rainy conditions covered the Cambridge area, but sailors endured and overcame the sub-optimal weather, with Harvard coming out on top against the eight-team field.

Christina Chen combined to post a 20-1 record over two days, cruising to the program's third Marchiando Trophy since 2019. The Crimson was four wins clear of second-place Yale (16-5) and nine better than Brown (11-10).
Harvard opened with six consecutive victories, sweeping two rounds with Dartmouth, Boston University and Navy, before splitting with Brown. The Crimson then closed with two wins apiece against College of Charleston, Yale and MIT, before single victories over Dartmouth, BU, Navy, Brown, CofC, Yale and MIT. In 17 of Harvard's 20 wins, the Crimson had the first boat cross the finish line. The other three outcomes were convincing: 2-3-4 vs. Navy, 2-3-5 vs. CofC, and 2-3-4 vs. Navy.

Cold was the theme of the weekend as temps were the opposite of warm in Rhode Island, but the winds were in the 10-18 knot range on Saturday and at six knots on Sunday. A round-robin was held on Saturday, with the results splitting up the field in a Gold Top 4 and a Silver Bottom 6.

No. 7 Harvard opened with a 1-2-6 win over College of Charleston, but went 2-4-5 vs. Brown to split its first two races. The Crimson, however, answered with victories over Tufts (1-3-5) and Dartmouth (1-2-4) before falling to Yale (1-5-6). Harvard finished Round 1 with a 3-1 record (W, 1-2-5 vs. Cornell; W, 1-4-5 vs. Stanford; L, 3-4-6 vs. Tulane; W, 2-3-4 vs. MIT) to secure a Gold Top 4 berth with a 6-3 record.
The Crimson struggled on Sunday in Round 1 of the gold bracket, going 0-3 with losses to Brown (2-3-6), Yale (3-4-6) and Stanford (3-5-6). Harvard opened the second round with defeats to Yale (3-4-6) and Stanford (3-4-5) before ending the regatta on a positive note, downing Brown, 2-3-4. With the win over the Bears, Harvard finished with a 7-8 record, just a victory behind Brown for third. Yale (13-2) and Stanford (12-3) took the top two spots.

The weather on the Charles River was cold and wet over the weekend as Harvard competed in its first fleet race of the spring.
Theresa Straw and
Catherine Mignone represented the Crimson in Division A, while
Xavier Ayala-Vermont and
Julia Downey operated Harvard's B-entry.
The duo of Straw and Mignone finished inside the top 10 on six different occasions during the 12-race regatta, finishing in first place in Race 6 and then in the final two competitions (Race 11 and 12) to close out the weekend. Straw-Mignone also had a strong showing in Race 9 as they came in fourth. Overall, the pairing finished with a score of 94.
In the B-Division, Ayala-Vermont and Downey opened with a fifth-place performance and hit their best stride during Races 4-6 when they registered a seventh-, third- and eighth-place showing. The duo matched their best effort of the regatta with a third-place finish in Race 9, helping it to a final score of 113.
Harvard finished the two-day event with a score of 207 to post the ninth-best performance in the 16-team field. Northeastern won the regatta with a 93.

Harvard will play host to the Fowle Trophy for the NEISA Team Racing Championship and appear at the Yale Women's Team Race. Both will take place April 5-6.
