NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Behind a well-rounded effort, Harvard-Yale secured the win against Oxford-Cambridge, 22-15, at the 127
th running of the historic HYOC dual meet.
On the women's side, Crimson student-athletes account for seven of HY's 22 points, as the Crimson men added four points to tally, along with another in the 4x100m relay. HY has now won 15 straight meetings against Oxford-Cambridge, a streak dating back to 1993.
HARVARD HIGHLIGHTS:
- The day in New Haven started with the field events, as senior Jeremiah Swett took third in the men's javelin with a throw of 49.68m (163'0").
- Harvard contributed to the HY tally in the men's shot put, as sophomore Isaac Delaney won with a throw of 16.63m (54'6.75").
- Junior and team captain Daire Mahon took second in the men's high jump, clearing the bar at 1.90m (6'2.75").
- The Crimson took the top-four spots in the women's hammer throw. Sophomore Emilia Kolokotroni earned the point in the event with a first place showing, as the defending Ivy League champion in the women's hammer throw did so with an attempt of 59.63m (195'7"). Senior Cara Salsberry finished in second (52.53m/172'4") and sophomore Alice Mihas took third (52.41m/171'11").
- Harvard carried that momentum into the women's discus throw, as junior Michaela Denson scored in the event with a throw of 40.96m (134'4").
- In her HYOC debut, first-year Tyler Glover won the women's shot put, recording a point with a throw of 14.74m (48'4.5").
- The women's pole vault saw sophomore Lilly Hodge excel, adding to HY's point tally after clearing 3.95m (12'11.5").
- Over on the track, sophomore Mickaila Haisley scored after winning the women's 100m dash, crossing the finish line in 11.90.
- First-Year Saige Forbes kept it rolling in the women's 200m, growing HY's lead with a first place finish and a time of 25.28.
- In the women's 400m, sophomore Marta Amani scored after finishing in first, recording a time of 56.45 to add the point.
- Senior Ellaney Matarese took second in the women's 1500m with a time of 4:40.86, as sophomore Lily O'Donoghue-McDonald finished in second with a time of 4:42.34.
- The men's 100m saw first-year Liam Acevedo shine, as the Franklin, Ohio native scored with a first place finish and a time of 10.67.
- Senior Joe Ewing placed second in the men's 800m, completing the race in 1:56.07.
- The Crimson owned the hurdles events on the men's side, scoring points in the men's 110m hurdles and the men's 400m hurdles. Sophomore Simon Weiser finished in first with a time of 14.60, while junior Michal Husek sat atop the podium in the men's 400m hurdles after running a 57.07.
- Acevedo, first-year Hudson Allain, junior Reuben Henry-Daire and Yale student-athlete Andrew Fu combined for a 42.28 to score in the 4x100m relay.
