CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard Sailing enjoyed another strong weekend, with its top-ranked coed team winning the Thompson Trophy Team Race and its No. 6 women's squad placing fifth at the Legler Trophy/NEISA Women's Team Racing Championship.
Thompson Trophy Team Race | New London, Conn.
The Crimson successfully rallied from its second-place position after one day of action to win its third regatta of the spring campaign. Harvard was able to get 11 races in on Saturday and went 8-3 in the process. Fifth-ranked Boston College, meanwhile, was 9-3 heading into final-day action on the Thames River.
The Harvard contingent of skippers
Justin Callahan,
Mitchell Callahan,
Robby Meek and
Harrison Strom, along with crew members
Kennedy Leehealey,
Rosella Irfan,
Christina Chen and
Alexandra Dorofeev, went undefeated on Sunday, winning all 10 races. The dominant performance included second-round-closing wins over No. 8 Tulane, No. 3 Roger Williams and BC, before sweeping, in order, Rhode Island, No. 15 College of Charleston, No. 14 U.S. Coast Guard, No. 12 Tufts, Tulane, RWU and Boston College.
The Crimson's perfect Sunday ran its record to 18-3, well ahead of the Eagles and their regatta mark of 13.50-7. With the victory, Harvard improved upon its performance from 2024, when it finished in second place (17-4) behind Stanford (20-1).
Legler Trophy/NEISA Women's Team Racing Championship | Cranston, R.I.
Cold, rainy and (some) snowy conditions were the norm over two days in The Ocean State. Despite another frigid weekend of sailing, Harvard managed to post a 7-7 record, closing with a Sunday mark of 3-2 to break even and jump one spot in the team standings (The Crimson was 4-5 and in sixth place at the end of Saturday).
Cordelia Burn-
Margo Silliman,
Kate Danielson-
Amelie Zucker, and
Zoey Ziskind-
Peyton Hadfield were on hand in Cranston looking to capture NEISA's automatic bid to the ICSA Women's Team Racing Championship. The three duos did not have the best start, dropping their first three races. The Crimson, however, answered by taking down No. 12 Roger Williams, No. 10 Boston College, U.S. Coast Guard and No. 15 Bowdoin before falling to No. 13 Tufts and No. 8 MIT to finish out Saturday. Harvard's first-day performance was good to get it into Sunday's Gold Top 6.
A slow start on Day 2, with losses coming to No. 1 Yale and MIT, muted the Crimson's attempt to get into the Gold Top 4, but Harvard finished strong, earning victories over third-ranked Brown, Tufts and ninth-ranked Dartmouth to log the program's 12
th upper division finish in 13 team-race events this spring (6 women, 6 coed). The Crimson has also now finished among the top six in four straight Legler Trophy appearances since it returned to action following the pandemic.
