Softball Ends Regular Season with Home Series Against Cornell

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard softball concludes the 2025 regular season this weekend at Soldiers Field, facing Cornell in a three-game series on Saturday, May 3 and Sunday, May 4. The series starts with a doubleheader beginning at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 3 as first pitch for the series finale on Sunday, May 4 is slated for a 12:30 p.m. first pitch.

Admission to all games at Soldiers Field is free of charge and the entire series between the Crimson and Big Red airs live on ESPN+.

CRIMSON UPDATES:
  • Harvard enters the final weekend of the regular season with a 23-11 record, sitting in second place in the Ivy League with only a week to go until the 2025 Ivy League Tournament with a 12-6 record in conference play.
  • With the 3-0 shutout win against Brown on Sunday, Apr. 20, the Crimson secured its 18th straight 20-win season, excluding the shortened 2020 season.
  • Last weekend saw the Crimson play lights out, picking up its second series sweep in Ivy League action this year on the road against Dartmouth, winning all three in comeback fashion.
  • Trailing by a run heading into the top of the seventh in the series opener against the Big Green, sophomore outfielder Audrey Szollosi tied the game with a RBI-triple, as the Crimson offense exploded for eight runs in the top of the eighth to take the 10-2 win.
  • Home runs from juniors Lael Ayala and Finley Payne, along with senior Maya Douglas, made the difference in the final two games of the series, as Harvard swept Dartmouth with 7-5 and 8-4 wins in the Sunday doubleheader.
  • At the plate, first-year utility Alexa Muller was sensational, leading Harvard in batting average (.667), hits (8), total bases (14) and slugging percentage (1.167) against the Big Green.
  • For her efforts, Muller earned Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors for the first time in her collegiate career.
  • As a team, Harvard ranks second in batting average (.310) and earned run average (3.18) in the Ivy League this season. The Crimson is the only of two teams in the Ancient Eight to have both a team batting average above .300 and a team ERA below 4.00.
  • Harvard is capitalizing on fast starts this season, owning a 18-3 record when it scores first in 2025.
  • The Crimson is led by second-year head coach Jenny Rohn. A former Harvard assistant coach, Rohn is 50-28 in her Crimson tenure and 68-57 in her three-year head coaching career.
SCOUTING THE BIG RED:
  • Cornell, led by interim head coach Tara Tembey, starts the final weekend of the regular season with a 16-19 record and a 6-12 mark in Ivy League action.
  • In a trip to the Big Apple last weekend, the Big Red lost all three games against Columbia, two of them run-rule defeats.
SERIES HISTORY:
  • Harvard and Cornell have met 85 times on the softball field, with the Crimson leading the all-time series, 54-31.
  • Last season saw Harvard clinch its spot at the 2024 Ivy League Tournament in Ithaca, New York. After losing the opening game of the series, the Crimson toppled the Big Red, 19-1, tying the school record for the most runs scored in a single Ivy League game in program history.
HERE COMES THE SUN:
  • The only student-athlete in conference history to win Ivy League Player and Rookie of the Year in the same season, sophomore infielder Sophie Sun is orchestrating a stellar encore season.
  • One of four student-athletes in the Ivy League to bat above .400, Sun currently ranks in the top-five in the conference in batting average (.400), hits (46), runs (31), home runs (7) and total bases (73).
  • Last weekend saw Sun collect her 100th hit in her collegiate career, one of only two active Crimson to do so.
MASHING MULLER:
  • Harvard's hottest hitter, Muller is establishing herself as one of the top offensive talents on the team in just her first collegiate season.
  • Muller's .449 batting average against Ivy League foe's ranks third in the conference and leads the team this year.
  • In her last six appearances, Muller has five muti-hit performances with 8 RBis, collecting 12 hits in that span.
STRENGTH IN NUMBERS:
  • The Crimson pitching staff is filled with talent this campaign, boasting a steady rotation of strong arms.
  • A pair of Harvard student-athletes rank in the top-five in earned run average in the Ivy League. Sophomore Nicolette Hunter is second (2.45), while junior Riley Flynn is third (2.58).
  •  The Crimson is the only team in the Ancient Eight with multiple pitchers possessing an ERA below 3.00.
WE BRING THE BOOM:
  • The long ball has been a staple for the Crimson in recent contests.
  • From Mar. 29 to Apr. 15, Harvard hit at lease one home run in six straight games, its longest streak since 2011, when it hit a home run in seven straight games.
SENIOR SALUTE:
  • Following the doubleheader against Cornell on Saturday, Harvard will honor the Class of 2025 of seniors Kate Arrambide, Maya Douglas, Savanah Fitzpatrick and Priyanka Kaul.
  • The Class of 2025 led the Crimson to Ivy League regular season championships in 2023 and 2024, along with an Ivy League Tournament Championship in 2023.
  • Along with their championships, the Class of 2025 owns a record of 101-65-1.
IVY EXCELLENCE:
  • Over the last five full seasons, Harvard is one of the top softball programs in the Ivy League, owning a league-best 75-30 record in conference play from 2018 to 2024.
  • In that time span, the Crimson is the only team in the Ivy League to not drop double-digit conference games in a single-season.
  • Harvard has won back-to-back Ivy League regular season titles, as it won the inaugural Ivy League Tournament in Princeton in 2023.

  • Harvard softball has found and recruited talent from all across the United States.
  • The Crimson hail from 13 different states, including Illinois, Arizona, New Jersey, Hawaii, Washington, Missouri, Ohio, Virginia, California, Texas, Georgia, Florida and North Carolina.
