Amani, Kolokotroni Advance to NCAA Outdoor Championships at NCAA East First Round

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Two more Crimson are heading to Eugene, Oregon next month for the NCAA Outdoor Championships, as sophomores Marta Amani and Emilia Kolokotroni punched their tickets on the second day of the NCAA East Region First Round at Hodges Stadium.

In the women's hammer throw, Kolokotroni qualifies for her first NCAA Outdoor Championships after stellar showing in the circle. The two-time defending Ivy League champion in the women's hammer throw accomplished the feat on her first throw, taking 10th place after recording a throw of 63.63m (208'9"). Kolokotroni is Harvard's first representative in the women's hammer throw at the NCAA Outdoor Championships since 2023, when Stephanie Ratcliffe '23 won the NCAA national championship in the women's hammer throw.

Amani, the school record holder in the women's long jump, overcame adversity in the third flight of the women's long jump at the NCAA East First Round to secure her spot in Eugene, Oregon. After fouling on her first attempt, Amani leapt to a mark of 6.30m (20'8") to finish in seventh place. Amani's mark at the NCAA East First Round was just one centimeter off matching her school record of 6.31m (20'8.5").

The women's 800m first round saw a pair of Harvard All-Americans advance to Saturday's quarterfinals. A three-time All-America Second Team honoree in the 800m across both indoor and outdoor competition, sophomore Sophia Gorriaran automatically qualified for the quarterfinals after finishing in second in the fifth heat with a time of 2:01.88, a time that equals her season-best. Senior Victoria Bossong, the runner up in the 800m final at the 2025 NCAA Indoor Championships, did the same in the fourth heat, advancing after finishing in second with a time of 2:02.39.

An All-America Second Team selection in the women's 400m hurdles last year, senior Chloe Fair took the next step towards a third straight trip to the NCAA Outdoor Championships. A native of Suwanee, Georgia, Fair automatically qualified for the quarterfinals on Saturday after crossing the finish line in 56.60 to win the third heat.

Due to severe weather in the Jacksonville area, action in the women's pole vault was suspended and will resume tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. Senior Anastasia Retsa is currently tied for 21st after clearing 3.94m (12'11").

UP NEXT:
