Softball Begins Ivy League Tournament with Columbia Showdown

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – For a third straight season, Harvard softball travels to Princeton, New Jersey for the Ivy League Tournament, looking to punch its ticket to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2023.

The Crimson start its time at the 2025 Ivy League Tournament on Thursday, May 8, facing off against Columbia. First pitch at Cynthia Lynn Paul '94 Field is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Harvard fans can watch every pitch live on ESPN+ and tickets for the 2025 Ivy League Tournament can be purchased online.

CRIMSON UPDATES:
  • Harvard begins its postseason journey with a 26-11 record and a 15-6 mark in Ivy League action, starting the Ivy League Tournament as the No. 2 seed. The Crimson is riding a six-game winning streak
  • With its 26 wins in the regular season, Harvard now has 18-straight 20-win seasons.
  • The Crimson ended the regular season at home against Cornell, dominating on both sides of the ball in its fourth Ivy League series sweep of the year.
  • Across 21.0 innings of work against the Big Red, Harvard's pitching staff only allowed two runs, collecting 16 strikeouts in the process.
  • On the offensive end, Harvard outhit the visitors, 29-13, as four different Crimson collected multiple RBIs on the weekend.
  • Sophomore outfielder Audrey Szollosi ended the regular season on a high note against Cornell, leading the Crimson in hits with six, as four of them arrived in the series finale.
  • Harvard is capitalizing on fast starts in 2025, owning a 21-3 record when it scores first.
  • The Crimson starts the Ivy League Tournament as the conference leader in batting average (.315) and ranks second in team earned run average (2.97). Harvard is the only team in the Ancient Eight to have a team batting average above .300 and a team ERA below 3.00.
  • Head coach Jenny Rohn is in her second season at the helm of the Crimson softball program, owning a 53-28 record in her Harvard tenure and a 71-57 record in her three-year head coaching career.
SCOUTING THE LIONS:
  • Winners of its last eight contests, Columbia starts the 2025 Ivy League Tournament as the No. 3 seed, going 23-16 in the regular season and 15-6 conference action.
  • This marks Columbia's second trip to the Ivy League Tournament in program history.
  • The Lions closed the regular season with a sweep of Dartmouth, as all three victories arrived by one run.
SERIES HISTORY:
  • The Crimson and Lions will meet for the 60th time on the softball diamond this Thursday. Harvard leads the all-time series, 43-14, winning 15 of the last 16 matchups between the two schools.
  • In the regular season, Columbia traveled to Cambridge for a three-game series. After dropping the series opener, Harvard took the series win with back-to-back wins, punctuating the series with a 12-0 run-rule win in the series finale.
IVY LEAGUE TOURNAMENT HISTORY:
  • Dating back to the Ivy League Tournament's creation in 2023, Harvard is one of two teams in the conference to qualify for all three iterations of the Ivy League Tournament, the other being Princeton.
  • Harvard is looking to punch its 10th ticket in program history to the NCAA Tournament, last winning the Ivy League Tournament in 2023.
  • Across its two appearances in the Ivy League Tournament, Harvard is 6-3, owning a +20-run differential in the competition.
HERE COMES THE SUN:
  • In her second season in Cambridge, sophomore infielder Sophie Sun has reestablished herself as one of the top offensive talents in the Ivy League.
  • Sun ranks second in the conference in batting average (.407), as she ranks in the top-five in on-base percentage (.464), runs scored (33), home runs (7) and total bases (78).
  • Last season saw Sun become the first student-athlete in program history to be named in the NFCA/Tucci Top 10 Freshman of the Year list.
MASHING MULLER:
  • First-year utility Alexa Muller emerged as one of the Crimson's best hitters, especially in conference action.
  • Against Ivy League opposition, Muller ranks third in batting average (.436), sixth in slugging percentage (.673), and second in on-base percentage (.515).
  • A native of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, Muller also leads all first-years in the Ivy League in batting average, slugging percentage, and on-base percentage.
STRENGTH IN NUMBERS:
  • Harvard boasts one of the best pitching staffs in the Ivy League, highlighted by its depth of talented arms.
  • Sophomore Nicolette Hunter ranks second in the Ivy League in ERA (2.16), while junior Riley Flynn is third in the conference with a mark of 2.45.
  • The Crimson is the only team to have two pitchers rank in the top-five in the conference ERA, as Harvard is also the only team in the Ancient Eight to have multiple pitchers hold an ERA below 3.00.
  • The 2023 Ivy League Rookie of the Year, Flynn ends the 2025 as the Ivy League leader in opposing batting average (.211), as fellow classmate Ryan Grace is third, holding opponents to a batting average of .223.
  • Harvard is the only team in the Ivy League to have multiple pitchers rank in the top five in opposing batting average.
WE BRING THE BOOM:
  • The long ball has been a staple for the Crimson in recent contests.
  • From Mar. 29 to Apr. 15, Harvard hit at lease one home run in six straight games, its longest streak since 2011, when it hit a home run in seven straight games.
IVY EXCELLENCE:
  • Over the last five full seasons, Harvard is one of the top softball programs in the Ivy League, owning a league-best 75-30 record in conference play from 2018 to 2024.
  • In that time span, the Crimson is the only team in the Ivy League to not drop double-digit conference games in a single-season.
  • Harvard won back-to-back Ivy League regular season titles in 2023 and 2024, as it won the inaugural Ivy League Tournament in Princeton in 2023.

  • Harvard softball has found and recruited talent from all across the United States.
  • The Crimson hail from 13 different states, including Illinois, Arizona, New Jersey, Hawaii, Washington, Missouri, Ohio, Virginia, California, Texas, Georgia, Florida and North Carolina.
