Men’s Basketball’s Hinton Leads Team Taiwan to Silver Medal at Jones Cup

NEW TAIPEI CITY, Taiwan – Harvard Men's Basketball rising sophomore guard Robert Hinton earned First Team All-Jones Cup and averaged 13.3 points and 3.6 rebounds per game to help lead Team Taiwan to a silver medal at the 44th William Jones Cup at the Xinzhuang Gymnasium in New Taipei City.
 
Competing in the tournament for the third time, Hinton and Team Taiwan played eight games in nine days from July 12-20, earning victories over Australia (90-56), United Arab Emirates (88-73), Chinese Taipei B (92-80), Malaysia (89-63), Bahrain (93-50), Qatar (82-63), and Japan (83-58), while falling just once – to the Philippines (67-56).
 
Hinton earned a silver medal at the event for the second straight year, and Team Taiwan's A side gained silver for the third straight year. Overall, Team Taiwan has captured silver 11 times at the event alongside two golds and five bronze medals for 18 total medals.
 
For the tournament, Hinton registered 13.3 points, 3.6 rebounds, 1.0 assists, and 1.0 steals per game, while shooting 46.0 percent from the field and 87.0 percent from the free throw line over eight games played.
 
In the opening victory over Australia, Hinton posted 16 points and three rebounds, while shooting 7-of-13 from the field and 2-of-3 from 3-point distance. He followed that with 25 points on 9-of-13 field goals and 7-of-7 free throws alongside five rebounds in the win over UAE. Hinton added 12 points on 6-of-10 shooting with two assists and two steals in the win over Chinese Taipei B.
 
Over the tournament's second half, Hinton netted 14 points vs. Malaysia, posted 10 points and eight rebounds vs. Bahrain, scored 16 points on 6-of-10 field goals and 3-of-3 free throws vs. Qatar, and added eight points, seven rebounds, and three assists vs. Japan.
 
During his first season at Harvard in 2024-25, Hinton earned Ivy League Rookie of the Year honors unanimously, captured Ivy League Rookie of the Week eight times, and won the team's Raymond P. Lavietes Most Valuable Player Award. Hinton averaged 14.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.3 steals, and 30.0 minutes per game, while scoring in double figures 19 times in 27 games. He shot 47.7 percent from the field, 35.6 percent from 3-point distance, and 76.3 percent from the free throw line.
 
Later this summer, Chinese Taipei's national team is also set to play in the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup from August 5-17 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. In the group stage, the team is set to compete against the Philippines (Aug. 5, 2:00 p.m. ET), Iraq (Aug. 7, 7:00 a.m. ET), and New Zealand (Aug. 9, 2:00 p.m. ET).
