Track & Field Impresses on Opening Day of Dr. Sander Scorcher

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Harvard track & field opened its first road trip of the season in the Empire State, as the Crimson impressed on the opening day of the Dr. Sander Scorcher at The Armory in New York City.

HARVARD HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Harvard's time in the Big Apple started with the open section of the men's 800m, as first-year Preston Ellis earned his first collegiate win, finishing in first place with a time of 1:55.35.
  • Over in the throwing cages, junior and team captain Alice Mihas finished in third in the women's weight throw open, propelled to the top five showing with an attempt of 17.17m (56'4"). Mihas' throw at The Armory is a new personal-best and ranks 10th all-time in school history.
  • The women's 60m invitational prelims saw junior Mickaila Haisley punch her ticket to the final, as the Kingston, Jamaica native ran a 7.68 in the second heat. Sophomore Ella Cooper finished in 16th place with a time of 7.85, as first-year Leila Holland joined her teammates in the top 25 with a 23rd place finish and a time of 7.89.
  • Three Crimson advanced to the final of the men's 60m. Junior Timi Esan ran the fastest time in the field, posting a 6.81 in the prelims. Senior and team captain Jonas Clarke won his heat with a time of 6.88, as junior Amari Turner qualified on time with a 6.96 in the prelims. Sophomore Camren Ware took 16th place after sprinting a 7.01.
  • With the hurdles now on the track, senior Fabiola Belibi posted the top time in the women's 60 hurdles invitational prelims, punching her ticket to the finals with a time of 8.47.
  • In the men's 60 hurdles invitational prelims, junior Simon Weiser also clinched a spot in the finals, as his time of 8.16 ranked fourth in the field.
  • Making her fourth appearance of the season, sophomore Kaelin Creagh finished in second place in the women's 400m seeded section with a time of 56.34.
  • The men's 400m seeded section saw a pair of Crimson finish within the top 10. First-year Oliver Parker grabbed fourth place after running a 49.45, while sophomore Brayden Chavez posted a 49.82 to take seventh place.
  • In his collegiate debut, first-year Arpad Kovacs excelled in the men's 400m, winning the invitational section with a time of 47.74. A native of Szeged, Hungary, Kovacs' time ranks fifth all-time in school history. Senior Justin Levy finished in second place as well with a time of 48.83.
  • Belibi earned her second win of the year in the women's 60 hurdles invitational final, doing so with a season-best time of 8.44, as sophomore Abigail Dennis finished in seventh place with a time of 8.72.
  • The men's 60 hurdles invitational final saw Weiser run an 8.48 to cement his seventh place finish.
  • Haisley finished in fifth place in the women's 60m invitational final, improving on her time from the prelims with a 7.62 in the final.
  • All three of the Crimson that qualified for the men's 60m invitational final finished in the top five. Esan took the win with a time of 6.79, with Clarke right behind him in second place with a 6.80. Turner finished in fifth place after crossing the finish line in 6.90.
  • In the men's weight throw open, first-year Daniel Ye continues to make massive strides in the event in his first collegiate campaign, taking the win with a personal-best throw of 18.07m (59'3.5").
  • Senior Michaela Denson finished in second place in the women's weight throw invitational, as her attempt of 18.50m (60'8.5") is a new season-best.
  • The men's 800m invitational saw first-year Hudson McGough take 17th place with a time of 1:54.14.
  • Harvard's opening day at the Dr. Sander Scorcher ended with the men's and women's triple jump invitational. In her second collegiate appearance in the event, sophomore Saige Forbes finished in 10th place with a career-best 11.73m (38'6") jump. A standout for the Crimson in the men's high jump, first-year Joachim Johnson made his collegiate career debut in the triple jump, taking fourth place with an attempt of 14.95m (49'.75").
