Fencing Splits Dual Meets Against New York University

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – For the final time this season, Harvard fencing competed in front of the home crowd at the Malkin Athletic Center, as the Crimson split a pair of dual meets against New York University.

The day started with the Crimson women's squad squaring off against the Violets, as the visitors secured a narrow 14-13 win. Harvard's men's team ended the evening in Cambridge on a high note, defeating NYU in strong fashion, 16-11. The women's team will enter the Ivy League Championships next weekend with a 13-4 record while the men own a 12-5 heading into the postseason.

In its tight loss against the Violets, the women's team battled to the end, erasing an early deficit to craft a 13-13 scoreline heading into the final bout before the visitors secured the win. A two-time Olympian with Team Canada, junior Jessica Zi Jia Guo went undefeated against NYU in women's foil action. Sophomore Madison Duckett also tallied a perfect 3-0 record against New York University, as first-year Emily Jing and junior Kaitlyn Pak also picked up multiple wins.

A native of Toronto, Ontario and the 2024 NCAA Women's Foil National Champion, Guo leads the Crimson this season in wins with a 40-6 record.

Over on the men's side, the Crimson outlasted the Violets in a back-and-forth battle, utilizing a late run to secure a 16-11 victory on home court. The men's foil squad led the way with a team-best 6-3 record against New York University.
A two-time All-American honoree, junior Henry Lawson set the tone for the Crimson from the start, as the Manhattan, New York native led the way in men's epee action with a 3-0 record. An NCAA Championships qualifier last season, sophomore Andrew Chen also ended the evening undefeated in men's foil competition.
