PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The No. 2 Harvard men's squash battled on the road this afternoon, going toe-to-toe with No. 3 Penn but would fall after a tightly contested match. The Crimson (7-2, 4-1 Ivy) took three match victories, but it was not enough to get past the third-ranked Quakers (11-2, 4-1 Ivy), who earned a 6-3 win in the penultimate match of the Ivy League season.
How it Happened
The Crimson and the Quakers met on the courts this afternoon to battle for position in the Ivy League standings. The sides made up two of the three teams in contention for the Ivy League title, which is still up for grabs heading into the final conference match of the season.
The Quakers victory was fueled by victories at the top of the ladder. Penn earned 3-0 wins at ones and twos and a 3-1 win at threes.
Omar Azzam played in the matchup for Harvard, taking the second game but falling in the final two.
Christian Capella also grabbed a game in his match at fours but could not rally for the comeback big, falling 1-3.
First-years
Maddox Moxham and
Alexander Broadbridge both secured wins at fives and sixes, respectively, to improve on their impressive first-year records. Moxham won his match 3-1, rallying after a loss in the first game to win three straight. Broadbridge had a similar result in his 3-1 victory.
Jacob Lin battled in his match at sevens, earning a win in the first game before falling in the final three. Penn's sixth win came at eights, where it earned a 3-0 win.
Ishant Shah was the third member of the Crimson with a victory, posting a 3-1 win.
