Esan Sets New School Record at Kirk Baptiste Invitational

HOUSTON, Texas – Harvard track & field picked up right where it left off at the end of the indoor season, as the Crimson orchestrated record-breaking showings to open the 2026 outdoor campaign.

The defending Ivy League champion in the men's 100m, junior Timi Esan wasted no time making history at the Carl Lewis International Complex, as the London, United Kingdom native set a new school record in the men's 100m with a time of 10.26. Esan breaks one of the longest standing top marks in the men's record book, surpassing the former record of 10.28 set by 2004 Athens Olympian and All-American Chris Lambert '03 during the 2002 season.

HARVARD HIGHLIGHTS
  • Action in Houston started with the field events, as first-year Yannick Kraus, the Crimson's record holder in the men's heptathlon, finished in second place after clearing 4.75m (15'7").
  • Kraus competed in two more events at the Kirk Baptiste Invitational as well. In the men's javelin throw, Kraus picked up the win with an attempt of 54.38m (178'5"), while he finished in eighth in the discus throw after logging a throw of 36.50m (119'9").
  • Over in the women's pole vault, junior Lilly Hodge carried over her momentum from the indoor season into the opening day of the outdoor season, winning the event after clearing 4.12m (13'6.25"). A native of Keene, Kentucky, Hodge's mark from the Kirk Baptiste Invitational is a new outdoor career-best, as Hodge is now tied for second all-time in program history in the event.
  • First-year Jillene Wetteland made her collegiate outdoor debut in the women's high jump, finishing in second place after clearing 1.60m (5'3").
  • Senior Daire Mahon and first-year Demetris Tzoannos both finished in a tie for second place in the men's high jump after each of them leapt over 1.90m (6'2.75").
  • One of Harvard's team captains this year, junior Alice Mihas started the outdoor season with a third place showing in the women's hammer throw, logging an attempt of 51.65m (169'5").
  • A trio of Crimson finished inside the top five of the women's discus throw. First-year Nadjela Wepiwé earned a second place showing in her collegiate debut, as her mark of 51.68m (169'6") ranks fourth all-time in program history. Sophomore Tyler Glover also produced an all-time top 10 result, as her throw of 49.94m (163'10") was third at the meet and sixth all-time in school history. Senior Michaela Denson rounded out the Crimson showing in the event, finishing in fifth place with a mark of 46.64m (153'0").
  • The running events started with the women's 100 hurdles, as sophomore Abigail Dennis, an All-Ivy League Second Team selection in the women's 60 hurdles, picked up a win with a time of 13.63.
  • Over in the men's side of the 110 hurdles, junior Simon Weiser took second with a time of 14.17.
  • Harvard went two-three-four in the women's 100m. Junior Mickaila Haisley led the way with a second place showing with a time of 11.58, as sophomore Saige Forbes took third with an identical time. Fellow classmate Ella Cooper finished right behind the duo in fourth place after stopping the clock at 11.59.
  • Esan made history in the men's 100m, as his time of 10.26 is a new school record and slotted him into third place. Senior and team captain Jonas Clarke also finished in the top 10, sprinting a 10.44 to take sixth place.
  • The women's 400m saw junior Marta Amani finish in third with a 54.63, while sophomore Kaelin Creagh took seventh after running a 56.72.
  • Senior Justin Levy highlighted Harvard's outing in the men's 800m, winning the event with a time of 1:52.90, followed closely by first-year Hudson McGough in third place with a time of 1:55.30. Preston Ellis, another Crimson first-year making their outdoor season debut, placed in fifth after running a 1:56.68.
  • Another one of Harvard's captains, senior Jacklynn Okereke captured second place in the women's 400 hurdles, posting a time of 1:01.76.
  • First-year Oliver Parker shined in his collegiate men's 400 hurdles debut, winning the event with a time of 51.30. A native of Leicester, England, Parker's time from Houston ranks sixth all-time in school history. Senior Michal Husek finished in third place with time of 52.36, while senior Ondrej Vesely ran a 53.32 to take fourth place.
  • Cooper continued her stellar form in the women's 200m to start the outdoor season, winning the event with a time of 23.45, a mark that ranks fifth all-time in school history. Haisley followed up her stellar outing in the women's 100m with a 23.75 in the 200m to finish in third place, a time that slots into sixth all-time in school history.
  • The Kirk Baptiste Invitational ended with the men's 200m, sophomore Harlow Tong captured fourth with a 20.89, while fellow classmate Hudson Allain placed in 11th with a 21.62.
  • Two Crimson relay teams also authored top 10 marks at the TSU Relays on Saturday, eaching winning the 4x100m relay in the process
  • With a time of 44.42, a crew of senior and team captain Mfoniso Andrew, Cooper, Haisley and Forbes is now tied for second all-time in program history in the women's 4x100m relay. That time also ranks fifth all-time in Ivy League history.
  • The men's 4x100m relay team of Esan, Clarke, Turner and sophomore LeRoy Horton posted a time of 39.72, a time that ranks fourth all-time in school history.
