ATLANTA – Harvard Men's Swimming and Diving first-year
William Mulgrew finished in ninth place in the 1,650 freestyle on Wednesday evening at the 2026 NCAA Championships inside McAuley Aquatic Center.
A native of Walpole, Massachusetts, Mulgrew competed in the fourth and final heat, which led off the first night of finals action. The Ivy League champion completed the race in 14:40.07 to finish in sixth among the eight athletes in the pool. With the three other heats contested earlier in the day during the prelims, Mulgrew ultimately finished with the ninth-fastest time in the 29-person field.
The winner of the event, Ahmed Jaouadi of Florida, set the NCAA record with a time of 14:10.03. Meanwhile among Ivy League swimmers, Mulgrew finished first, with Noah Millard of Yale coming in 16
th place (14:47.47) and Santiago Gutierrez of Princeton turning in the 26
th-best performance (15:05.96).
After three events, Harvard finds itself in 19
th place out of 26 scoring teams, with nine points.
Mulgrew and
Adriano Arioti will continue their time at the NCAA meet on Friday. Mulgrew is slated to compete in the 500 free, with Arioti set for the 100 back. Prelims are scheduled for 10 a.m. ET and the finals for 6 p.m. ET. ESPN+ will air the action live.
