ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Fourth-seeded Harvard Sailing ended first-day semifinal action at the ICSA Women's Fleet Racing National Championship in second place. The Crimson, which is competing in the Eastern Semifinals, earned a score of 48 and sits behind top-seeded Stanford (33). No. 12-seed Roger Williams (57), No. 9 College of Charleston (62) and No. 5 Dartmouth (64) round out the top five.
Competing for Harvard in the A-Division was
Zoey Ziskind and
Christina Chen, while
Kate Danielson and
JJ Drummond handled the B-Division.
Peyton Hadfield,
Sophia Montgomery and
Amelie Zucker were waiting in the wings as reserves.
The Crimson opened the day with uneven results as Ziskind-Chen finished the first race in 10
th place and Danielson-Drummond came in fifth. Harvard, however, caught fire beginning with Race 2 as Ziskind-Chen went 1-2-2 over its next three outings and Danielson-Drummond posted a finish line of 1-1-2, to vault the Crimson into first place.
A 5-9 performance from Ziskind-Chen in their last two races, coupled with Danielson-Drummond's 2-8 effort in Races 5-6, dropped Harvard down to second place at the close of business.
The Crimson, which completed six of the scheduled 14 races, will look to secure a spot in the finals on Saturday when it continues semifinal action in the Sunshine State.
