CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The 2026 season saw Harvard softball once again standout as one of the top programs in the Ivy League, as the Crimson found success on and off the diamond this spring, earning a spot in the 2026 Ivy League Tournament for a fourth consecutive year and orchestrating several memorable moments along the way.
Facing off against top competition from across the national softball landscape, the Crimson began its journey on the road, as Harvard laid the foundation for the 2026 season at nonconference tournaments in Arizona, South Carolina, Florida, New York and Connecticut.
Harvard began Ivy League action with a series win on the road against Yale, as pitchers
Nicolette Hunter and
Ryan Grace combined for a shutout of the Bulldogs in the series finale. Harvard made its home debut at Soldiers Field against Dartmouth, as senior infielder
Finley Payne lifted the Crimson to a dramatic win against the Big Green with a walk off home run in the series finale.
In Upstate New York, the Crimson swept the Big Red behind stellar hitting displays in all three games, as Harvard scored a season-high 15 runs in the series finale against Cornell. Harvard kept the momentum going against Brown and Penn, earning another two series victories against the Bears and Quakers.
During the final home series of the regular season, Harvard celebrated its incredible 2026 senior class, as the Crimson celebrated
Lael Ayala,
Riley Flynn,
Ryan Grace and
Finley Payne for their tremendous achievements on and off the softball diamond in Cambridge.
Harvard closed out the 2026 regular season in the Big Apple, defeating Columbia to earn another series win in conference action. In the series opener, Harvard outlasted the Lions, 9-3, after 13 innings with a grand slam from
Sophie Sun, representing the longest game for Harvard since 2004.
Several Crimson achieved incredible career milestones during the 2026 season. Both
Finley Payne and
Sophie Sun reached 100 career RBIs this year, as
Audrey Szollosi also recorded her 100
th career hit. A native of Austin, Texas, Sun launched 13 home runs this year, a mark tied for second in school history. In the first game of the Cornell series, head coach
Jenny Rohn also reached the 100-career win milestone.
Harvard will now turn its attention to the 2027 season, as a strong group of returners and an exciting incoming first-year class will make the Crimson a strong contender in the Ivy League once again.
