SANTO DOMINGO – Incoming Harvard softball first-year Amanda Thompson is chasing the Olympic dream this week in the Dominican Republic, as the two-way standout is representing the U.S. Virgin Islands at the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Thompson and the U.S. Virgin Island's started off the competition in dominant fashion, taking down Cuba, 7-0, on the opening day of the tournament. Four runs in the top of the first inning made the difference for the U.S. Virgin Islands, as they held Cuba to just four hits across seven innings. Earlier today, the U.S. Virgin Islands continued its dominant form, earning a 15-0 run-rule victory against El Salvador. The U.S. Virgin Islands plated 10 runs in the first inning, allowing just one hit in the process. 

Thompson returns to the diamond tomorrow with the U.S. Virgin Islands tomorrow with more pool play action, facing off against Mexico at 9:00 a.m. The bronze and gold medal contests are scheduled for Friday, July 31^st, as the gold medalist will qualify for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Thompson is looking to become the first Olympian in Harvard softball's already illustrious history.
