CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – First year forward Nick Abruzzese earned Ivy League Rookie of the Year honors, headlining five from Harvard men's ice hockey that earned All-Ivy recognition on Wednesday (March 4).
Abruzzese earned First Team All-Ivy honors along with sophomore defenseman Jack Rathbone. Sophomore forward Jack Drury earned Second Team All-Ivy recognition, while first-year goaltender Mitchell Gibson and junior defenseman Reilly Walsh earned All-Ivy Honorable Mention.
Abruzzese led all Ivy League skaters with 14 points (six goals, eight assists) in Ivy contests. Overall, recorded the third most points by a Harvard freshman in school history (13 goals, 26 assists, 39 points) with his 1.34 points per game most among all NCAA first-years.
Rathbone was the top scoring Ivy defensemen with 12 points (four goals, eight assists) in nine Ancient Eight games. He is third among NCAA blueliners with 1.08 points per game overall, recording 28 points (six goals, 22 assists) on the year.
Drury averaged a point per game in Ivy League play with 10 points (four goals, six assists) in 10 games. He led Harvard in goal scoring, and had 34 points (18 goals, 16 assists) overall. His .69 goals per game is fourth among all NCAA skaters.
Gibson was 3-1-1 in five Ivy League contests, recording a 1.39 goals against average and .951 save percentage. He recorded a shutout with 31 saves in his first career start, a 3-0 win over Princeton on Nov. 8. He became the first Harvard first-year goaltender to record a shutout in his debut since Tripp Tracy '96 (Nov. 13, 1992 vs. Union, 4-0).
Walsh enjoyed another standout offensive season from the blue line, recording eight points (two goals, six assists) in 10 Ivy League contests. He is 15th in the NCAA in per game scoring by a defensemen (.82 points per contest) and had 23 points (six goals, 17 assists) in 28 games.
