CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The Harvard football team
improved its conference record to 3-0 with a 37-3 win over
Princeton on Saturday afternoon at Harvard Stadium. The Crimson
remains atop the league standings and improves its overall record
to 4-2 on the year, while the Tigers fall to 1-5 overall and remain
winless in league action at 0-3.
The Crimson has now captured victories in 12 of the last 14 games
against the Tigers, and has won the last three meetings.
Harvard quarterback Collier Winters has now recorded at least two
touchdown passes and hit seven different receivers in five of six
games this season.
The hosts wasted little time getting on the board, needing just
three plays and a minute and a half to get into the endzone. On a
third-and-eight play from his own 23 yard line, Winters hit a
streaking Chris Lorditch in stride down the left sideline for a
77-yard score, the longest pass play for the Crimson this
season.
After a Princeton field goal on the ensuing drive, Harvard added
to its lead on the first play of the second quarter after
recovering a botched snap on a Tigers punt attempt. On first a goal
from the Princeton three yard line, Winters lofted a pass to a wide
open Kyle Juszczyk to give the hosts a 14-3 lead. Winters put one
in himself later in the quarter, plunging into the endzone from the
Princeton three yard line to put Harvard up 21-3 with 5:46 left in
the half. A late field goal by the hosts pushed the score to 24-3
in Harvard's favor heading into the half.
The Crimson struck again from the Princeton three yard line late
in the third as Gino Gordon crashed through the left side of the
line to up the score to 31-3 heading into the final quarter.
Tailback Chen Ho plunged in for a score three minutes into the
fourth to seal the 37-3 final.
The Crimson stays at home and in conference next weekend as it
welcomes the Dartmouth Big Green to Harvard Stadium next Saturday,
Oct. 31. Game time is slated for 12 p.m.
