Series History
Saturday's game will be the 113th meeting between Harvard
and Dartmouth in a series that dates to 1882 and stands as
Harvard's second-oldest rivalry. Harvard holds a 62-45-5 series
lead and has won its last five meetings and 11 of the last 12
against the Big Green.
Last Year's Meeting
Chris Pizzotti ran for two touchdowns and threw for a
third as Harvard routed Dartmouth, 35-7, and controlled the clock
with nearly 40 minutes of possession.
Ben Jenkins rushed 20 times for 111 yards and one touchdown for
the Crimson, which outgained Dartmouth on the ground, 368 to
minus-2.
Harvard attempted just three second half passes and ended the
game with 32 consecutive rushing plays.
Pizzotti's touchdown pass came on his only snap of the second
half and Patrick Long added two field goals.
Harvard's Last Time Out
Harvard's offensive and defensive dominance were on
display last weekend as the Crimson defense limited Princeton to
157 yards of offense and its own quick-strike attack enabled the
Crimson to end the game with 20 straight rushing plays including on
all 18 fourth quarter snaps.
Collier Winters threw a 77-yard touchdown pass on the third play
from scrimmage and added a three-yard TD pass and three-yard TD run
in the first half. Harvard outgained Princeton 121-1 on the round
in the first half and held Princeton without a first down in the
second quarter. In the fourth quarter Harvard limited Princeton to
1-of-8 throwing for nine yards. All told, Harvard outgained
Princeton 457-157.
Dartmouth's Last Time Out
Playing against what many have said to be Columbia's best
team in decades, Dartmouth sophomore Nick Schwieger ran for a
school record 242 yards to end the Big Green's 17-game losing
streak in a rain-soaked 28-6 homecoming victory over the Lions at
Memorial Field.
Ivy Updates
Harvard and Penn are tied atop the standings at 3-0
apiece following Penn's 9-0 win over Yale in a game in which
neither team scored an offensive touchdown. They are the only two
undefeated teams in league play.
Harvard Coach Tim Murphy
In his 16th season as Harvard's head coach, Tim Murphy
enters Saturday's game with a 101-54 record with the Crimson and a
133-99-1 overall head coaching record, which includes five years at
Cincinnati and two years at Maine. Murphy is one of just five
coaches to win 100 games since the formation of the Ivy League in
1954. Murphy has led Harvard to five Ivy League championships
(1997, 2001, 2004, 2007, 2008). He is 12-3 all-time against
Dartmouth
Dartmouth Coach Buddy Teevens
In his fifth year of his second tour of duty on the Dartmouth
sideline, Buddy Teevens enters Saturday's game against Harvard with
a 34-70-2 record. Teevens was head coach at Dartmouth from 1987-91
before returning to his alma mater two seasons ago. He is 2-6-1
overall against Harvard.
