BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Cheng Ho ran for 132 yards on
21 carries (6.3 ypc) and scored two touchdowns Saturday, and
Harvard forced five turnovers as the Crimson toppled Lehigh, 28-14
at Goodman Stadium. The victory was Harvard's 800th
all-time - ninth-highest in all of Division I.
In his first start of the year, Ho scored touchdowns in each
half and put forth a bruising effort from the outset with 13
carries for 90 yards (6.9 ypc) in the opening half alone.
Lehigh scored on its first drive as Chris Lum found Alex
Wojdowski for a one-yard pass. Harvard controlled the remainder of
the game however, as a punishing defensive push resulted in four
sacks, four interceptions, a fumble, four breakups and 10 QB
hurries.
Collin Zych recorded two interceptions, finishing with two
breakups, a tackle for a loss and six total tackles. Jon Takamura
sniffed out a screen pass and picked it off with under six minutes
remaining, returning it 60 yards for a touchdown and a 28-7 margin.
Takamura also finished with seven tackles, including 1.5 sacks in
addition to his second pick of the year.
Chucks Obi, Josue Ortiz and Carl Ehrlich added sacks from
Harvard's defensive line. Harvard held Lehigh to seven first downs
through the first three quarters before Lehigh moved the ball late
and scored on a QB sneak with 3:51 to play.
Trailing 7-0, Collier Winters found Ho on a 13-yard screen pass
for the first of two scoring passes in the second quarter.
An acrobatic interception by Zych then gave Harvard possession
at the Lehigh 38 with 10:56 left in the second. Lehigh got a
temporary break when a would-be 27-yard TD pass to Chris Lorditch
was ruled incomplete despite video evidence to the contrary.
However, Winters scrambled deep behind the line of scrimmage before
jumping to get off an unlikely pass to Adam Chrissis for three-yard
scoring pass and a 14-7 lead.
Midway through the third quarter, Ho capped a 10-play drive with
a cagey five-yard scamper between the tackles to make it 21-7
before Takamura struck with the final Harvard score of the day.
