CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Katharine Chute tallied
a goal in the first period, and the Crimson shut down the
nation's top-ranked power-play unit, as the Harvard
women's hockey team skated to a 1-1 tie against No. 4 New
Hampshire Wednesday evening at Bright Hockey Center. Christina
Kessler 24 saves in net for the Crimson, helping the Harvard
penalty kill go 3-for-3 in the contest.
Early on in the first, Chute stole the puck in the New Hampshire
zone near the left circle, creating an automatic scoring
opportunity. Leaning to her right, Chute wristed a shot that flew
over Lindsey Minton's left shoulder and over her glove,
hitting the back of the net at 5:21. The goal was Chute's
third of the season and gave Harvard a 1-0 lead. Through 20
minutes, Harvard held a 10-6 lead in shots entering the second
period.
The Crimson carried over a power play in the second period, as the
Wildcats were called for interference at 18:48 of the first.
Harvard (3-3-1) set up shop in the UNH zone to start the second
frame, but the Wildcats cleared leading to a scoring change.
Micaela Long backhanded a shot at the Crimson net, which was
blocked, but grabbed the loose puck and poked another shot, this
once sneaking through Kessler's pads and rolling behind the
goal line. Long's shorthanded goal tied the game, 1-1, only
41 seconds into the second period.

With 1:35 to play in regulation, the Crimson was whistled for
hooking, giving UNH (8-1-4) its third power-play opportunity. The
Crimson held steady, blocking seven shots by Wildcat players before
the horn sounded. Kessler made seven saves during the third, while
Minton turned aside 10 shots in the frame. In overtime, the Crimson
earned a power play at 3:31, as Kate Buesser was pulled down on a
scoring opportunity in front of the UNH goal. Harvard, though, was
not able to get any shots on net with the extra skater before time
expired.
Harvard held the final count in shots, 28-25 and finished the game
0-for-5 on the power play.
Up next on the schedule, the Crimson will visit ECAC Hockey and
Ivy League rivals Yale and Brown Nov. 20-21.
