CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Harvard held the New
Hampshire Wildcats without a two-point basket in the first half
Wednesday night as the Crimson raced past their guests en route to
a 78-60 victory at Lavietes Pavilion on Thanksgiving Eve.
Harvard improves to 4-1 on the season heading into Sunday
evening's game at nearby Boston University. UNH falls to 1-2 after
its second straight road loss.
Harvard jumped out to an 11-2 start as the Crimson connected on
its first four shots and UNH floundered without a field goal for
the first 4:26 of play. UNH made just four baskets in the opening
half. Luckily for them, they were all from long range. The Wildcats
were also aided by foul trouble on Harvard's part with UNH going to
the charity stripe 22 times in the half to remain close.
Still, Harvard enjoyed a steady lead throughout a half that saw
the Crimson shoot 70 percent for much of the opening session. The
Crimson took a commanding 46-26 lead into the locker room thanks to
a buzzer-beating triple from Jeremy Lin.
It was all Harvard in the second half with the home side leading
by 32 before going deep into its bench as 11 different players
logged at least 10 minutes of action.
Lin led all players with 18 points (6-9 FG) to go with seven
rebounds in just 23 minutes on the court. No Crimson player had
more than 24 minutes on the floor. Christian Webster, in his first
collegiate start, added 15 points on 6-9 shooting with two steals.
Classmate Dee Giger had 11 points and sophomore guard Oliver
McNally had nine assists and no turnovers while pulling down five
rebounds.
Harvard finished the game shooting 51 percent (25-49) and 92
percent from the foul line (22-24).
UNH was led by Radar Onguetou's 12 points.
