Georgia Invitational Day Two Results
ATHENS, Ga. – Freshman Owen Wurzbacher won
the 100 breaststroke with a meet-best time of 56.91 to lead the
Crimson to a successful showing at day two of the Georgia
Invitational. Harvard remains in fourth place at the meet, as the
Crimson has amassed 396 points, while No. 9 Georgia sits in first
with 1,983 points. Denver stands second with 1,129 points and No. 4
Florida is in third with 901 points.
Zac Ranta accumulated a score of 288.65 on the one-meter board, as
he completed the event in fourth place. Michael Stanton collected
271.30 points, as he finished seventh in the one-meter
competition.
In the 200 medley relay, the foursome of Douwe Yntema, Wurzbacher,
Ross Ford and Rick McKellar placed fifth, as the group combined to
finish the race in 1:34.84. In the next event, Yntema posted the
eighth best time in the 400 IM, as he touched the wall in 4:03.67.
Crimson co-captain Alex Meyer cruised to a time of 1:43.15 in the
finals of the 200 freestyle, as Meyer finished eighth in the
competition. In the consolation of the 200 free, Mason Brunnick had
the fastest time (1:41.32), while Matthew McLean was second
(1:41.90). In the 800 freestyle relay, the Crimson also had a
fifth-place finish, as Yntema, Brendan McIntee, Matthew McLean and
Mason Brunnick completed the race with a collective time of
6:50.26.
Ford swam the best time for Harvard in the 100 butterfly, as he
placed 15th in 51.66. Greg Roop touched the wall just moments later
with a time of 52.47. Niall Janney won the “C” race in
the 100 butterfly, posting a time of 51.15. Ryan Cutter and McIntee
were the next two swimmers to finish, grabbing the wall in 51.38
and 51.53, respectively. In the consolation of the 100 backstroke,
Greg Pelton was 14th, finishing in 53.22.
Wurzbacher also recorded the Crimson's highest finish in any
of the preliminaries, as the rookie was fourth in the 100
breaststroke, grabbing the wall in 57.84. Yntema posted
Harvard's best time in the preliminaries of the 400 IM, as he
claimed seventh place, swimming the race in 4:00.26. Meyer had a
top 10 finish in the 200 freestyle preliminaries, clocking in at
1:42.27 for 10th place. Ranta was sixth in the one-meter diving
preliminaries, scoring 281.70.
Action resumes at the Georgia Invitational Sunday with the final
races slated to begin at 3 p.m.
