CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Sophomore Brogan Berry scored a career-high 31 points to lead the Harvard women's basketball team to a 90-85 double overtime victory over Northeastern Wednesday night at Lavietes Pavilion. The Crimson with its third win in a row improves to 6-3 overall for its best start since the 2001-02 season.

Berry's 31 points came on a 10-for-18 effort from the field. She connected on 3-of-4 from downtown and went 8-for-9 from the charity stripe and added eight assists and a steal. Junior Emma Markley recorded her third straight double-double scoring 20 points and pulling down 15 rebounds, which ties her career high. Freshman Victoria Lippert posted her first collegiate double-double putting up 21 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. She went 4-for-4 in the two extra frames, including nailing a shot in regulation to send it to overtime and hitting the same jumper with second left in the first overtime to keep the Crimson alive.

The game went back and forth all night as neither team could pull away by more than seven points. Berry scored the final seven points on the first half to turned a 31-28 deficit into a 35-31 halftime lead. Berry had 17 points at the break, just three points shy of her career best.

A trey from Lippert to start the second put the Crimson up by seven, a feat they would match two more times before the game ended. With under seven minutes to play in the Huskies put themselves back into contention with an 11-4 run that tied the game at 59 with 3:26 left in regulation. But neither team could make a defensive stop as both team finished the first 40 minutes with 65 points.

Harvard and Northeastern each scored nine points in the first five minute overtime to send it to double overtime, only the second double overtime contest in Crimson history. Points from Berry, Lippert and Markley over a one-minute stretch allowed Harvard to pull away and take a six-point lead with 1:32 left in the game. Northeastern answered quickly with a Kaskia Cannon three-pointer, but fouls by the Huskies sent the league's leading free throw shooting team to the line. The Crimson went 4-for-6 in those attempts to seal the win.

Harvard shot 44.4 percent from the field for the game and was 33.3 percent from beyond the arc. The Crimson made 87.5 percent of its shots from the free throw line. The Huskies edged the Crimson on the glass, outrebounding Harvard, 58-52.

The Crimson takes a 20-day lay-off for exams and winter break. Harvard returns to the hardwood Dec. 29 at Marist. Game time is slated for 7:30 p.m.
