AVENTURA, Florida - Former Harvard basketball
guard Drew Housman '09 has signed a professional contract with
Israeli team Hapoel Kiryat Tivon.
Housman was signed following a two-day U.S. tryout at Nova
Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. on July 28 and 29.
Housman, a Calabasas, Calif. native, started at guard for four
seasons at Harvard and is the program's all-time leader in games
played (113) and games started (102). A two-time All-Ivy League
selection, Housman finished his career with a total of 1,228
points, which is 14th all-time at Harvard. He is fourth
all-time with 157 steals and sixth with 339 assists.
Last season, Housman averaged 11.6 points while shooting 53
percent from the floor, 40 percent from three-point range and 80
percent from the free throw line. In Ivy League play, Housman
handed out 52 assists compared to just 21 turnovers.
Housman will practice with Maccabi Haifa (Israeli Premier
League) during the season with an option to be called up.
"I can't wait to get out to Israel and begin the season," said
Housman. "It was a thrill coming to the tryout in South Florida and
having the opportunity to showcase my skills."
"We are thrilled to sign Drew to Tivon," said Maccabi Haifa
owner Jeffrey Rosen. "Both of them are very talented and
intelligent basketball players who were hungry to get the chance to
play in Israel."
