HARTFORD, Conn. -- The fifth-ranked Harvard men's
squash team suffered a non-conference loss to No. 1 Trinity,
falling by a score of 9-0 Saturday afternoon.
With the teams using a three-court system, Harvard's No. 1,
Colin West, dropped his match against Baset Chaudhry, 3-0 (11-6,
11-4, 11-9). At the No. 2 position, Richard Hill won the second
game against Parth Sharma, 11-8, but could not get any closer,
losing 3-1 (11-3, 8-11, 11-3, 11-7). Zeke Scherl fell in three
straight games against Supreet Singh at the No. 3 spot (11-4, 11-4,
12-10).
In positions 4-6, Harvard players competed in close matches.
J. Reed Endresen won the second game against Randy Lim at the No.
4, 11-9, but Lim took the next two games to earn a 3-1 win (11-8,
9-11, 11-6, 11-7). At the No. 5 slot, Eliot Buchanan went to
overtime in each of his games against Antonion Diaz Glez.
Diaz Glez, though, got the better of Buchanan winning 12-10, 13-11,
14-12. Harvard also won a game at the No. 6 position, as
Jason Michas opened with a 11-9 showing against Christopher Binnie,
but Binnie captured the next three games for a 3-1 victory (9-11,
11-7, 12-10, 11-7).
In other matches, Alexander Ma outlasted Johan Detter, 17-15, in
the first game at the No. 9, but Detter held on for 11-9, 11-8,
11-9 wins in the next three games. At the No. 7 spot, Andres
Vargas topped Harvard's William Ahmed, 3-0 (11-4, 11-7, 11-9), and
Reinhold Herget held off Alex Lavoie, 3-0 (11-7, 11-4, 11-2).
Harvard, which moves to 4-2 overall with the defeat to the
Bantams, hosts No. 8 Penn and No. 4 Princeton at the Barnaby Courts
Feb. 6-7.
