RAVENSBURG, Germany -- Harvard senior goaltender
Christina Kessler stopped 15 shots to earn the shutout in a 9-0 win
for Canada's National Women's Under-22 Team over Switzerland in the
gold medal game of the 2010 MLP Cup.
Kessler, who had one shutout during this year's tournament, now has
four clean sheets during her career with Canada's Under-22 Team,
tying Laura Hosier for the most all-time. In Friday's
semifinal game against Sweden, Kessler turned aside 21 shots,
helping Canada defeat the Swedes, 4-3, in overtime.
Kessler, a native of Oakville, Ont., helped Team Canada win the
silver medal at the 2009 MLP Cup after recording two shutouts and
making 35 saves in two games. She also competed for Canada's
Under-22 Team that defeated Team USA in a three-game series in
August 2008. She will now rejoin the Harvard women's hockey
team, who will host No. 7 Cornell and Colgate in home games at
Bright Hockey Center Jan. 15-16.
