The Particulars
Harvard takes to the road on Saturday for an important Ivy League
matchup at Princeton. With injuries at key positions plaguing
virtually every Ivy League team, the championship race is wide open
heading into league-only play starting this weekend.
Series History
Saturday's game will be the 103rd meeting on the football field
between these two schools. The Tigers hold a 52-43-7 edge.
Princeton won close games in 2005 and 2006 but Harvard has won
every other game played since 1995 - winning 12 of those 14 games
including a nine-year victory march enjoyed by Harvard from
1995-2004.

Last Year's Meeting
Harvard's offensive and defensive dominance were on display last
season in a 37-3 Crimson victory as the defense limited Princeton
to 157 yards of offense and its own quick-strike attack enabled the
Crimson to end the game with 20 straight rushing plays including on
all 18 fourth quarter snaps.
Collier
Winters threw a 77-yard touchdown pass on the third play from
scrimmage and added a three-yard TD pass and three-yard TD run in
the first half. Harvard outgained Princeton 121-1 on the round in
the first half and held Princeton without a first down in the
second quarter. In the fourth quarter Harvard limited Princeton to
1-of-8 throwing for nine yards. All told, Harvard outgained
Princeton 457-157.
Harvard's Last Time Out
Despite a ravaging run defense that limited Lehigh to 25 rushing
yards on 34 carries, Harvard saw a 17-0 halftime lead go by the
board as the Crimson was upset by Lehigh, 21-19, last weekend.
Harvard's injury-riddled secondary surrendered nearly 200
passing yards in the third quarter alone as the Mountain Hawks
scored all 21 points with a 45-mile per hour wind at its back.
Still, two highly controversial calls kept the Crimson from
victory; First, a pass interference call in the end zone negated a
Harvard interception and was followed by a Lehigh score; Last, a
Crimson touchdown with 1:14 left in the game was ruled incomplete
allowing Lehigh to escape with the win.
Princeton's Last Time Out
Princeton lost a 13-point halftime lead to Brown in a 17-13 loss
last weekend. Brown's Joe Springer threw an 8-yard touchdown pass
to Jonah Fay for the go-ahead score with 7:39 left.
The Tigers lost quarterback Tommy Wornham with an upper-body
injury. Wornham, whose 1-yard run put the Tigers up 7-0, was hit
hard later in the first quarter and left the game for good after
Princeton's next possession.
Patrick Jacob kicked field goals of 37 and 42 yards for
Princeton. Andrew Dixon got most of the work at quarterback for the
Tigers, finishing 7-for-18 for 83 yards.
Harvard Coach Tim Murphy
In his 17th season as Harvard's head coach, Tim Murphy enters
Saturday's game with a 106-57 record with the Crimson and a
139-102-1 overall head coaching record, which includes five years
at Cincinnati and two years at Maine. Murphy is one of just five
coaches to win 100 games since the formation of the Ivy League in
1954. Murphy has led Harvard to five Ivy League championships
(1997, 2001, 2004, 2007, 2008). He is 12-4 all-time against
Princeton.
Princeton Coach Bob Surace
Bob Surace '90, a key member of the 1989 Ivy League champion
Princeton football team, was named the Charles W. Caldwell Jr. '25
Head Coach of Football at Princeton University, on Dec. 23. Surace
had been an assistant coach for the Cincinnati Bengals for the
previous nine seasons and helped the team to an AFC North title in
2009.
The 22nd head coach at Princeton, Surace was a first-team
All-Ivy center in 1989. In addition to his tenure with the Bengals,
Surace was also the head coach at Division III Western Connecticut
State University, where he put together an 18-3 record in 2000 and
2001. He is 0-0 against Harvard.
